In December, I worked with @thetrailblazery, supported by @forasnagaeilge on filming an interview with our President, Michael D Higgins. It was a huge career highlight to meet him in his office and listen while he answered @manchanmagan's questions. The project is the genius idea of @kathyscott who saw an opportunity to explore his relationship with the Irish language - the conversation that unfolded that day ended up touching on far more than that and saw him share his wisdom and heart-centred leadership with us as a Saoi: a term in the Irish language that refers to one who is highly respected for their mastery in art, literature, and culture.
In this expansive interview President Higgins reflects on his journey from his childhood in County Clare to his distinguished career in academia and politics, sharing his commitment to An Ghaeilge and its significance in post-colonial Ireland. He examines the broader impact of history on cultural identity and offers a sweeping perspective on societal transformation — tracing the arc of human progress from industrialism to modernity, from capitalism to socialism. He warns of the brutality of endless war and the existential threats posed by biodiversity loss and species extinction, while also emphasizing the vital role of imagination, curiosity, and creativity as tools for renewal and hope. He reminds us of the power of possibility and a golden age yet to be achieved.
The full interview goes live on the trailblazery website this Sunday 16 March, 2025 at 12 noon GMT.

A year of increasingly large Bloomfield dinners, some drinks, great work with the best people, so early morning they were basically night swims, a second chance, wonderful new friends and the best old ones.

Delighted @sarah_r_murphy met @albertortejero, who not only lives in Spain but also puts more effort into ordering lunch for the table than anyone I have ever met. @vera_lawlor_55 clearly also a fan.

Lovely birthday drinks. Thanks to everyone who came in at short notice, especially the woman in pink who I have never met and do not know 😂

Thank you @allenkielyphotography for the new headshot to replace the one taken so long ago that recently, someone seeing it for the first time asked, "is that you?"
