I’ve always surrounded myself with people who are naturally smarter and more capable than me. It’s an old trick. These guys are pretty intense.

Thank you @sessabells for this again. In loving memory of Iam and his handler and our Andrew Pejack.

I got an Aperture subscription for my birthday. It’s probably the best photography magazine in print. Jen got me a random issue from 2007. It had a story called “Blessed Happiness in Iran,” and also included a feature called “Back in the GDR.” The last photo in the GDR part is taken from the Berlin tower. It has a giant ball with a restaurant at the top of it. I think it served as a TV antenna for communist television broadcast. There is a fountain in the upper right where we would dip our feet on hot days while on vacation in Berlin.

Please join us at the @fotoexpressfilm show at @empire7studios tomorrow! I got a sneak peek to what will be on the walls when I dropped off my piece. It’s really an incredible collection of photography from all across the community. This show is an amazing snapshot into the fabric of our city, so please don’t miss it.

Every weekend, or as often as possible, I ride my funny bike to a stretch of road in the canyons outside of south San Jose, picking up trash along the way (one of the many benefits of having a large basket on a bicycle), and stop at stretch of road covered by eucalyptus trees. I typically make some tea (because I bring a tea kettle and a little stove in the big bike basket), and while the tea is brewing I take some photos. I've been doing this for years. The same hill, the same gate, and the same fence post with the same lichen. Did you know lichen is like an algae riding in a space space suit made of fungus? The algae photosynthesises and gives the space suit sugar, and the fungus lives happily with a little built in power plant that it protects from the elements.
This was taken with a Linhof SuperTechnika 6x9, 47mm Super Angulon f8, on Fomapan 100.

6 x 17 pano out in Alviso. This format only lets you shoot 4 images per roll of medium format film. Henry and I were talking about it as I drove him to school a couple days ago. Something along the lines of that the limit of 4 is inspiring rather than limiting and that sometimes that's just how the world works, the limits are the driver of inspiration. I use a 3D printed body by Kraken (sold on Etsy by a guy names Shawn who is great to deal with), with a 90mm Super-Angulon f8 lens, and that lovely Kodak TMax 400.
