Behind the Scenes | New Makers 2025
For the past eight years, we have invited craftspeople from around the world to apply for our New Makers programme. Selected artists receive expert guidance to support the growth of their businesses, along with a platform on TOAST to sell their handcrafted goods, with all profits returned to them.
We launched this mentorship scheme as an extension of our core values, rooted in thoughtful production and the preservation of centuries-old crafts. This year’s makers have been chosen for their innovative and inspiring approaches to such traditions.
Meet the Makers on the #TOAST

Ethiopian Food Traditions
Helina of Eat Ethio - a gallery-café-studio hybrid space anchored in Ethiopian food she shares with her partner Scott - cooks using mostly Kentish produce, some of it sourced from Wick Wood itself, the setting for our springtime lunch.
Hawthorn sits at the centre of the table – “to hold the heart of the occasion and bring connection,” says Helina – which is laden with herbs and tinctures, among them her mum’s aromatic berbere spice blend, which adds earthy punch to all manner of Ethiopian dishes.

A Look Back | TOAST & Dezeen at NYCxDesign
With the launch of our New Makers 2026 programme, we are taking time to reflect on the role of craft today; its significance for individuals, its diverse forms of expression, and the value it holds in contemporary culture.
During NYCxDesign week, we presented a panel talk in collaboration with architecture and design magazine Dezeen. Editor Ben Dreith was joined by TOAST New Maker 2026 Linnan Ye, author and weaver Deborah Needleman, and Megan Skidmore from Powerhouse Arts.
The speakers reflected on the path to becoming a craftsperson, the challenges modern makers face, and the importance of mentorship and visibility in sustaining a craft practice.
Visit our New Makers 2026 collection at TOAST New York West Village until June 4.
