A Vacant Affair, Baybeats 2025.
It's been a while since I've shot a gig, but when my friends told me they were performing at Baybeats, I did not hesitate to ask if I could shoot them again.
It seems like a lifetime ago, when my weekends were spent covering different gigs from hardcore to indie rock. The music scene back then seemed a lot more vibrant, with a variety of venues where local bands thrived and support was strong. Or perhaps I'm just too old now to know what's cool now. lol. Anyway, it was lovely seeing familiar faces and singing along to familiar songs.
Thanks @avacantaffair for putting your trust in me, hope this is not the last time i get to shoot you guys.

The story goes little Purna, a daughter of Indra from the Gods realm, was banished to the human realm for stealing a divine flower. Reborn as Samvari into a Kathmandu Valley poultry farming family, she raised four sons and accumulated wealth. Samvari decided to use her wealth to build a great stupa dedicated to the wisdom-mind of the buddhas and the relics of the Tathāgatas.
Samvari then asked the local king for his permission and for the necessary grant of land. The king thought and was impressed by Samvari, then responded, "Jarung!" ("Let it be done!"). She immediately began building the stupa with bricks loaded by her four sons and a servant, carried by an elephant and a donkey.
Local Newar people became concerned about the size of the stupa, and how it would reflect on members of the king's court who were not building bigger supports for the Dharma and roots of merit. The king refused to change his decision, and explained how "Let it be done" (Jarung) "slipped from his tongue" (Kashor). Thus, the stupa became known as the Jarung Kashor.

Last year I attended the Rochor/Jalan Besar edition of "Reading the City", one of three walks curated and lead by my colleague @vikaskailankaje . During the walk Vikas brought us around to look at signs (mostly shop fronts) that most would take for granted, he gave us insights into the historical and cultural significance that dictated their forms.
Which now brings me to these photos of various signs around Kathmandu, mostly hand painted, I love the combinations of colour and appreciate the letter forms of both the Nepali and English characters. I wondered if the painters referenced existing typefaces, what knowledge goes into setting type on a wall, how many sign painters are out there?

Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space.
The five colors represent the five elements and the Five Pure Lights. Blue symbolizes the sky and space, white symbolizes the air and wind, red symbolizes fire, green symbolizes water, and yellow symbolizes earth.
By hanging flags in high places the Lung ta (wind horse that is the symbol of the human soul in the shamanistic tradition of East Asia and Central Asia) will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags, the air is purified and sanctified by the mantras.
The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.
Beautiful and poetic ritual/tradition but as I walked under the flags, I began to wonder how they are hung in the first place? Some flags are hung high up in the trees and span across small valleys.

Fuck You, I won't do what you tell me. 2025.
The publication consists of photographs taken over the span of 7 years, this publication serves as an unofficial record behind the making of @triadskate new video 'Max Glint'
Conceptually, my intention was to embed skateboarding into the expression and delivery of the images. I started the premise 'what if i approached the making of this in the same way I do skateboarding?' which consequently led to me 'trying tricks' and 'playing with' my archive of images. The result are glitched, textured and manipulated images that capture what skateboarding is to me; energetic, a form of personal expression and going against the grain. It is bound with recycled skateboard hardware which made binding similar to setting up a board, whilst imbuing each publication with my own personal history.
I only have a very limited number of copies left, drop me a message if you would like to purchase one.

The city of Kathmandu is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world, built around sites of worship and devotion. Dusty streets and stone alleys connect a vast network of Stupas, Temples and Altars.
These sacred sites are often tucked away from the chaos of the main roads, they create little oases of peace and serenity. I found the same calming sensation using the Woodland Retreat head-to-toe powder wash, the scent of eucalyptus provided much relief after each day of exploring. The Sunlit Terrace body balm working in tandem with the Secret Garden hair oil, kept my skin and hair feeling hydrated despite the dust and dry air. Dhanyabād @wearepostcard.
With all that being said, the real treasure of Nepal, I discovered, is its people. The kindness and warmth we were shown as strangers is a reflection of their beliefs and culture. Namaste Nepal, we will meet again...

Happy Birthday to my favourite person, thanks for being a constant source of light and warmth to me and those around you.

the drizzle in the morning felt like it would last the entire day, thankfully it stopped and we could go skate. my aging body can't skate as much/well as i'd like to, but sometimes skateboarding means rolling in the streets and hanging with the homies.

a collection of images from my first academic year as a full-time educator, which has been full of ups and downs. there's still a lot that i want to do, but i'm glad to have been given opportunities to add value to my students' learning experience in and beyond the classroom.
thanks to all my kids who make my job worthwhile and inspire me with their creativity, thanks to all the guests who've been so generous in sharing their knowledge and wisdom and finally thanks to my colleagues who've been pillars of support.
