5 years ago today marks the premiere of my Peabody Award Winning animated short, COPS AND ROBBERS, on Netflix.

I was short listed for an Oscar nomination and received an @naacpimageawards nomination. It landed me representation with literary management @thegothamgroup_ .

The amazing animation was created by talented artist all over the world and put together thanks to @spinvfxlife and our editor @tashrop.

The score was done by my brother, @jerrymusicscore_1 and sung by the Brittney Howard (@blackfootwhitefoot).

It was produced by @jadapinkettsmith, @lawrencebender and @janetjeffries4757.

@theebillyporter was gracious enough to be in our music video which highlights some of the behind the scenes that went into creating our film.

The first time I’ve ever said out loud, “I’m proud of myself,” is when I played the role of PURLIE last spring. This production began to repair a confidence that had been chipped away for many years.

I carry a lot of scar tissue from racially charged micro aggressions during my Kinky Boots experience. I’ll share more on that in my memoir. LOL. But I had given up theatre at the end of 2019, not just because of my filmmaking endeavors or covid, but because I was burned out.

Purlie brought me some healing. Thank you @americantheatergroup for giving me a safe space. Thank you @thekennyingram for seeing me. Thank you to the entire company for being community. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our beautiful production.

Monday we get to celebrate being honored by @officialaudelco. Thank you for the nomination. Look at all the beautiful and talented Black men I get to share this category with. Wow!!!🕺🏾
