For me, choosing to be seen trying is not just a trend. I’m a recovering “move in silence” girl, who used to prioritize perfection and preparation over everything else. Building in public for me is about no longer moving in scarcity, and trusting that my ideas deserve to see the light too.
This started as a note in my phone, that went crazy on TikTok when I first shared it, and turned into my first post Substack (ahhhhh!) 🤎🔗 meet me there for the full piece!

Black media spaces are in trouble, and that’s why we’re making a big change.
Over the past few months, we’ve watched as writers, editors, and creatives of color have been laid off, and cultural outlets like Teen Vogue and VIBE have been gutted. Media by us and for us is being deprioritized, and it’s scary.
Now more than ever it’s important to support independent magazines and media groups, who are protecting and uplifting our stories. But that also means that independent outlets have to evolve to take up the space that legacy media has left behind.
That’s why we’re making critical changes at GROWN.
For over ten years, I’ve built this space as a home for Black women’s stories. Now, we’re expanding that mission and evolving into a full media ecosystem, @grownmediaco.
This year, we’re launching our creative agency @grown.studios, along with a slate of new publications starting with our Black music discovery outlet @gardnmag, and soon, a new space for women in sports, with even more to come.
We’re also working closely with a new advisory board to help lead this evolution and shape what the next decade of independent Black media can look like. We’re growing not only because we have to, but because our stories deserve it.

This month was probably the first time I felt a little doubt in a long time 😅
I’m in that chapter right after you launch something, and it’s no longer about if it can work but how will it work. Day dreaming and vision boarding the thing is the fun part, but stress testing it is… hard.
Being a creative founder is already hard on its own, and learning all that’s required to scale it is even harder. My saving grace lately has been just returning to being a student, studying, giving myself grace as I learn to build something that literally has no manual. I can say it’s making me a much better Founder & CEO, but I can also say this is really not for the weak 🥹
My newsletter Growing Through It has been such a healing place for me to be honest about this journey. Thank you for 1.3K subscribers on Substack and 1.7K on LinkedIn in just 4 months!!! CRAZY.
I will be in your inbox today with something new, so stay tuned 🤞🏾

Grateful for every door building in public continues to open for me. 💫
I feel like I’m just coming up for air after months of locking in and truly betting on myself, but moments like this make it all feel worth it.
Thank you @mktrhub and @blackwomenmarketers for having me as a panelist this year, and congratulations to @strategistjas and @awholelottajas on everything you’re building for us.
From one Black girl founder to another, I see you and your work is so needed!!
Baltimore, until next time 🫶🏾

Moving through life welcoming failure so you can learn > moving through life forcing everything to be a success.
We need to talk about how we treat each other as Black women entrepreneurs.
As someone building things by us and for us, there’s nothing that will ever make me stop dedicating my work to us. I can also admit that there have only been two times I’ve had to look to legal action to resolve a bad business matter, and both times were against other Black woman owned brands.
I’ve also heard countless stories by other Black women founders, some with worse stories than mine, about how hard we can be on each other and how defeating it can feel when it comes from someone who should support you.
We can have grace for each other, but also hold each other accountable. Thankfully this moment is something I’m just now learning to make some peace with, but this was a hard lesson I needed to learn.
If you’ve made a business mistake that’s still haunting you, I see you. And to other Black women founders, PLEASE let’s do better 🫶🏾

I said I was building in public so… 😅☕️
6 months ago I took the leap to bet on this dream of mine and it’s been… a lot. But to really break it all down, I felt it was time to finally bring my yapping to YouTube.
I’m sharing my first video tomorrow, subscribe at the link in my bio! 🫶🏾🎥

Building three careers at once is not for the weak, but I truly wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙏🏾💫
I was recently deleting all of my content from Facebook (it was as freeing as it sounds) and I came across some posts I made at the very start of my career. Idk if it’s because this year marks 10 years since I graduated college, but it really made sit with my story and all the detours it took to get here.
Being a multi-hyphenate took me a decade to figure out. At first I just a girl trying to pursue one dream, that turned into me finding two other career paths I also love. And I’ve been exploring all of it ever since.
There’s also many new faces here, so consider this another introduction. Welcome to the next 10 years of my story 🥹

Building three careers at once is not for the weak, but I truly wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙏🏾💫

Decided I’m going to write vocal freestyles to my favorite R&B tracks again, this one is called Lover Girls 🦋💕
—
You don’t even gotta wish the best for him
Cliche, but you were the best for him
He had a gift, teaching you to beg for him
Can’t be the alchemy love’s supposed to make
You were depressed for him
Dressed it all up, turning heads with him
Now all your confidence feels bleak
Nothing in the mirror to see
But it’s okay
Learning love the hard way
Lover girls gonna get it back
Don’t you ever worry about that
And it’s so hard
Gentle loving hard scars
Lover girls gonna get it back
God don’t ever play about that
He don’t play about you
