This year Baccalaureate Evensong was held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Chelsea, to mark the 195th anniversary of its founding by faculty and students from GTS. The service was followed by a procession back to the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, which intentionally reversed the route of the Seminary’s founding procession, symbolizing both continuity and renewal.

It’s great to welcome members of cohort 3 and 4 back to the Close for the first of our May intensives!

We are saddened to share the news that the Rt. Rev. Thomas Breidenthal, who served as the John Henry Hobart Professor of Christian Ethics and Moral Theology at The General Theological Seminary from 1992 to 2001, has died. We give thanks for his life and scholarship. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Hard hats required: Dean DeLashmutt and Artist in Residence Buck McDaniel getting ready for next week’s intensive.

Reminder: The second online listening session for GTS alumni to share their thoughts on the qualities and qualifications they would like to see in the next Dean and President will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, May 13, at 4:30 p.m. ET.
If you are unable to attend, we invite you to join the online session for friends of GTS on Friday, May 22, at 12:00 p.m. ET. An in-person listening session will also be held on the Close on Thursday, May 28, at 6:00 p.m. ET.
If you have not received an invitation with the Zoom link, please email alumni@gts.edu. We look forward to hearing from you!

Construction on the Close continues! A new drainage system is being installed to prevent flooding after heavy rain, and the concrete walkways are being replaced with bluestone ones. The windows in Seabury have been removed for re-leading. Bricks, mortar and roofing are being repaired and an elevator and access ramp are being installed.

Congratulations to hybrid MDiv student and founder of the Center for Spiritual Nourishment at Christ Church, Columbia, Michael Looney on his selection as one of nine visionary leaders to be part of Episcopal Divinity School's inaugural Innovating Beloved Communities cohort. The year-long program will equip a circle of faithful innovators to discern, incubate, and launch ministries that advance a just, compassionate, and multicultural Beloved Community.

Congratulations to GTS alumnus the Rev. Dr. Adam J. Shoemaker ‘07 on his election as the Ninth Bishop of Long Island! Let us hold him in our prayers ahead of his scheduled ordination and consecration as bishop on September 19, 2026.

O God of unchangeable power and eternal light: Look favorably on your whole Church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; by the effectual working of your providence, carry out in tranquility the plan of salvation; let the whole world see and know that things which were cast down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new, and that all things are being brought to their perfection by him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
