We are getting close to starting the Private Beta Testing Phase for the Browser version of Foto. We will be emailing everyone that was an original beta tester of the mobile app. They’ve been with us for multiple years and we want to reward their support by giving them the first look at the browser version of Foto. We’ll send an email with instructions when Private Beta launches.

We are not looking for more beta testers at this time.

We also continue to work on our own data monitoring system that will allow us to track down bugs much faster and determine the root cause quickly. Once we get our new internal data monitoring system built, we’ll start fixing some bugs high on our list and improving app performance.

We hope to launch the private beta version in a couple of weeks.

We have a new Foto Podcast episode for you!

In this episode, Michael sits down with filmmakers Ken Hanson, Jack Davidson, and Dave Myszewski to discuss their upcoming documentary about legendary photographer Art Shay. @artshayfilm

Over a career that spanned more than seven decades, Art Shay photographed everyone from Martin Luther King Jr., Ernest Hemingway, Muhammad Ali, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Algren to people living on the margins of American life. He covered the 1968 Democratic Convention, the aftermath of MLK’s assassination, organized crime, street life in Chicago, war, politics, and everyday people trying to survive.

The conversation explores how Shay developed his eye during World War II, how he hustled his way into rooms nobody else could access, and why his work feels like a visual history of America itself. The filmmakers also discuss digging through his enormous archive, the emotional complexity of his later life, and why they believe Art Shay deserves far greater recognition in the history of photography.

We haven’t released a lot of new updates this year so far, because we are working on the browser version of Foto for the most part. We have one team member only working on the browser version and another assisting and helping with bugs/performance updates.

We are going to release 1-2 more bug/performance updates and then we are going to focus both team members only on the browser version until it’s done. All bug and performance fixes will pause during this time.

Once the browser is out we will go back to alternating between bug fixes and new features to Foto.

Hey Android People!!!! We just released Foto 0.10.57 which drastically speeds up the app launch time. You’ll want to update to 0.10.57 and open Foto, scroll for a bit, then force close Foto and reopen the app.

You’ll see much faster app launch speeds now!

We are still waiting on Apple to review this update for our beta users. Apple reviews are taking a long time lately. It’s taking a few days to get through the TestFlight review and then another few days to get through the public review.

This week we are wrapping up the update that will improve app launch speeds. Internal testing will start in a couple of days.

We continue to work on the browser version of Foto. Specifically, we are working on the single Post page and the single Portfolio page.
