The biggest test of my martial arts life was this fight against @ckao04 - i was struggling!! Of the three rounds, i won the first, he won the second, and we tied the third. If i’m being honest in the rewatch though, i would say Conary should have won the third and the bout. Either way we’re both proud for topping the sanda charts as taolu athletes :)

I learned so much in this fight! I also need to work on a lot. So much of the control and calm that i can have even in harder sparring went out the window when it’s a 100% fight. Certainly was a major lesson for me that i’ll be learning from for a while. Amituofo!

I also have to thank Sifu Junhong @junhongs_kungfu_club for being the best coach and for being in my corner. Surprise thanks to Sifu Proano @american.wushu.academy for joining as well! Idk how to repay y’all for cleaning up so much of my blood 😂🤣🙇🏻🙇🏻

Still kind of reeling/reveling in how i got grand champ (!!)

Idk how you feel, but i never quite do my best on the mat (mostly because my best comes out only like once a month lol) but it’s a great experience because it tests you in a particular moment

Biggest achievement was my XHQ getting within .02 points of the legendary @junhongs_kungfu_club

Years ago he taught me my first staff form and it was an amazing pleasure to get to compete with him and the other athletes @phxwushunationals. Coming in second place to him on both staff and xhq means more than many of my gold medals haha

Somehow won grand champion?! @junhongs_kungfu_club deserved it tho i came second to him in Xiao Hong Quan and staff haha but he didn’t register for it.

Continuing to play with slo-mo to keep an eye on technique. I worked a lot on my footwork/stances this time around (i learned from my last post!! 😹). Now I’m seeing some leaning and such that could use more tightening. Strong core! = strong technique!

Slow mo is great for checking yr technique! Watching this, I’m especially noticing certain things in my footwork. I need my legs to be a little softer, while the stances stay deep. I can see my feet aren’t grounded in some strikes which makes them weaker than optimal

Yooo so last weekend my sister @tinaasongg competed in her first ever tournament, NAGA’s BJJ tournement. She weighed in at 101 lbs and nobody was in her weight class OR the one above, so she had to compete in the female white belt 110-119 division

Not only did she show some real toughness on the mat (her first round went the distance into overtime and she won on score), she won gold with a goddamn #kimura

Proud of you sis!! Scared to get on your bad side now hahhaa

Also all her friends and teammates are very cool nice people, and they all won gold too! If you wanna train bjj in nj it seems like @houseofsaltjiujitsu is a good place 🫠
