TeesDance
The flagship charity for dance in the Tees Valley!
Dance for everyone that enriches & transforms lives. Inclusive. People-focused. Made locally.
Today didn't go the way we hoped. But this is still a historic year for @theboroofficial - and we're proud to be part of it.
TeesDance have partnered with MFC to create a large-scale mass participation dance performance on the pitch at the Riverside Stadium - as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations.
This October, young people from youth groups, primary schools, dance schools, older adults and community groups from across the Tees Valley will perform on the Riverside pitch.
Original choreography. Original music. All created by amazing talent from the Tees Valley.
150 years of Middlesbrough Football Club. 150 years of this town showing up for itself.
Dance belongs here. It always has. π

Yesterday we shared something exciting. Here's a little more. π
This October, TeesDance is bringing together young people from youth groups, primary schools and dance schools alongside older adults and community groups from across the Tees Valley - to perform an original mass participation dance on the pitch at the Riverside Stadium.
We're talking diverse communities from across the region. All ages. All backgrounds. United by movement.
Original choreography. Original music. All created by amazing talent from the Tees Valley.
We've been building this since the start of 2026. The artists are in place. The music is made. Now we want YOU.

Something big is brewing in Boro. π
We can't tell you everything yet. But we can tell you this - this October, something homegrown, joyful and completely one-of-a-kind is coming to Middlesbrough. A large-scale mass dance. Hundreds of people. The kind of thing this town does better than anywhere else.
We cannot wait to share it with you - watch this space. π

Dance can be prescribed on the NHS. So why isn't everyone doing it? π
Social prescribing is already a thing - link workers can refer people to community movement and dance instead of, or alongside, medication. Over a million people a year in England access it.
But the scale? Nowhere near what the evidence says it should be.
Modelling suggests regular dancing could save the NHS an estimated Β£149m a year on dementia and another Β£157m on Type 2 diabetes. The evidence is there. The infrastructure is there. What's missing is the ambition to make it standard - not a pilot scheme in a PDF that nobody reads.
So in the meantime, we'll just get on with it. Free sessions every week across the Tees Valley. No referral. No waiting list. No postcode lottery.
Come dance with us. π

It's Mental Health Awareness Week. And we want to talk about something we see every week...
The person who came alone the first time - and now arrives early to meet their friends.
The mum who said she hadn't done something just for herself in two years.
The person who told us, quietly, that coming here is the best part of their week.
Dance doesn't fix everything. We'd never claim it does.
But here's what the evidence says:
π©΅ 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem this year ( @nhsengland )
π©΅ Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of depression by up to 30% ( @mindcharity )
π©΅ 9 million adults in the UK are affected by loneliness - one of the biggest risk factors for poor mental health ( @endlonelinessuk )
And here's what community dance does about all three.
It moves your body. It connects you to people. It gives you somewhere to belong.
Free. Every week. No referral needed.
One day this'll be on prescription for everyone. For now, it's already free.
π Want to join us? Here's where we are every week(and more sessions coming soon!):
π MoveAlways @ Boosbeck Village Hall - gentle dance for over 50s - Mondays, 10am
π MoveBaby @ Thorntree Family Hub, Middlesbrough - dance for babies & carers - Thursdays, 1pm
π Move Always @ Loftus (coming June!) - gentle dance for over 50s - Thursdays, 10am
All sessions are free. No booking. No experience needed. Just turn up.

Be honest with us. What would have stopped you?
We want to know the real reason people don't try a free dance class.
Was it this?
π¬ 'I can't dance'
π¬ 'I'll look silly'
π¬ 'It's not for people like me'
π¬ 'I wouldn't know anyone'
π¬ 'I'm not fit enough'
