I had often wondered what I would do if given the opportunity to create something very much in the public sphere. I have tried to make a work that can speak to different audiences in different ways. I hope that this uncanny blue giant will enchant kids in the way I was enchanted by fairytales, and later on by art. They are a dreamer under a spell, perhaps a curse, they are from elsewhere and in their dreams are elsewhere now too, an arrival under suspended animation.

This sculpture is a body dreaming under the spell and the radio is their dream. The dream radio is a 24hr transmission for the next 6 weeks, bringing together 80 artists, musicians, thinkers, writers as well as hours of archival materials, other radio stations and archives to create a terminal dream. This project belongs to everyone :) and I hope that one of its legacies is that public art can be many things and can be odd and uncompromised, and engaging and unexpected.

I hope that this uncanny blue giant will enchant kids in the way I was enchanted by fairytales, and later on by art. They are a dreamer under a spell, perhaps a curse, they are from elsewhere and in their dreams are elsewhere now too, an arrival under suspended animation.

This sculpture is a body dreaming under the spell and the radio is their dream. The dream radio is a 24hr transmission for the next 6 weeks, bringing together 80 artists, musicians, thinkers, writers as well as hours of archival materials, other radio stations and archives to create a terminal dream. This project belongs to everyone :) and I hope that one of its legacies is that public art can be many things and can be odd and uncompromised, and engaging and unexpected.

I had often wondered what I would do if given the opportunity to create something very much in the public sphere. I have tried to make a work that can speak to different audiences in different ways. I hope that this uncanny blue giant will enchant kids in the way I was enchanted by fairytales, and later on by art. ‘She was confronting something that I didn’t really have language for at all.’

In the early 2000s Tai Shani visited Valie Export’s major retrospective at Camden Art Centre where she was drawn to the artist’s mixed medium installation, ‘I (beat [it]) II’, 1980. The irreverence and rebellion demonstrated in the work allowed Shani to question the limits of art and personal devotion to artistic discipline. ‘It was unlike anything I’d seen’.

Introducing the artists of “If All Time Is Eternally Present”: TAI SHANI

Tai Shani (b. 1976, London; lives in London) works across performance, film, and installation. Her practice uses experimental writing as a generative method, moving between theory and visceral detail to build fragmentary cosmologies of non-sovereignty. Drawing on mythic and historical narratives, she reclaims feminised aesthetics such as the floral, the visionary, and the gothic within a utopian and militant register. Among her major solo exhibitions are Somerset House, London (2025); Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati and KM21, The Hague (both 2023); and Manchester International Festival (2021). She has also participated in major group exhibitions including British Art Show (2021) and HKW, Berlin (2022). In 2019, she won the Turner Prize, and in 2025 she was awarded the High Line Commission in New York.

The widening war we are witnessing did not appear overnight. It grows from years of normalizing Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its 78 year occupation of Palestine, allowing institutions to treat it as an exception.

Culture must not provide cover for genocide and the brutal aggression being unleashed on Iran and Lebanon.

No genocide pavilion.

I am beyond delighted that the @boijmans have acquired this installation, as well as the film ‘The Neon Hieroglyph’ into their collection - I feel very, very, very proud to be in such an epic, rich, significant, and inspiring collection! It feels unreal to have my melancholic gelato ghost amongst the work of so many absolute heroes of mine 🤍 all I have ever wanted in my life was to experience and give love, and to make my work in a state of a dancer in a dancing plague, guided and folded in to something beyond my grasp, and to swim dangerously!
