So this is what made me squeal yesterday! The trailer and cover reveal for #basedonatruestory, out on March 26 with @simonschusteruk and in June with @harperbooks. I *love* this cover. To me it screams Christie for the Insta age, a phrase coined by the @guardian’s brilliant Laura Wilson (although, not about me). An exquisite country pile, a dysfunctional family, cracks in the surface, and a hunt which is *on*. There’s just something about that arching, hounded deer. I also love this music. Always wanted to play the cello and this conjures up #Succession with hints of my own #anatomyofascandal. And that pop of acid against the classic teal! The sort of thing Delia, the youngest daughter and yoga-posing Influencer who likes to stir things up in this thriller, would hugely appreciate. Huge thanks to the art departments of @simonschusteruk and @harperbooks who’ve collaborated brilliantly so that I have cohesive covers which are subtly different: a slight difference in the saturation of the blue; acid green not yellow and subtle changes to the font. And, of course, to marketing guru @haysmcmullan and the S&S team for this brilliant trail. I had a lot of fun writing parts of this book and this cover and video reflects it. Come for the party, stay for the scandal, indeed. #basedonatruestory

Je découvre avec plaisir la plume de Sarah Vaughan. Ce drame psychologique est bien ficelé. Au moment du dénouement je suis scotchée !
Certains personnages sont plus attachants que d’autres.

If you’re going to do your second-ever chairing event, you might as well do it in front of an audience of 250 for @piccadillywaterstones. That was my reasoning as I went waaaaaay outside my comfort zone to interview @veschwab and @catclarkewriter - aka @evelynclarkewrites - last night. Turns out I didn’t need my seven pages of notes: this was the final leg of their three-week tour of the US and UK and their double act was well-honed (and hilarious). I’d wondered if they might be so exhausted, it might feel a little flat, but there was a giddiness - the finishing line in sight - and they were complete pros. #theendingwritesitself - a Sunday Times and NYT #bestseller - is both locked room mystery and a savage satire of the publishing industry, and it felt refreshing to hear them elaborate and expand. The fetishisation of debut authors, the privileging of youth, the sexual double standards, and the quixotic nature of an industry in which you can feel less like “dreaming than drowning” when books are cancelled - as happened with Victoria at 25 with the third part of her trilogy - were all explored. Thanks to Cat and @jessbarrattttt for the photos, (and Jess for the support and lemon drizzle cake!), and please admire the font at Sir Christopher Wren’s #stjamespiccadilly where the event took place, and where William Blake was baptised. Which was apt since there was a definite sense of less innocence, more experience, with regards publishing. Thankfully, we remain hopeful! If you’re going to do your second-ever chairing event, you might as well do it in front of an audience of 250 for @piccadillywaterstones. That was my reasoning as I went waaaaaay outside my comfort zone to interview @veschwab and @catclarkewriter - aka @evelynclarkewrites - last night. Turns out I didn’t need my seven pages of notes: this was the final leg of their three-week tour of the US and UK and their double act was well-honed (and hilarious). I’d wondered if they might be so exhausted, it might feel a little flat, but there was a giddiness - the finishing line in sight - and they were complete pros. #theendingwritesitself - a Sunday Times and NYT #bestseller - is both locked room mystery and a savage satire of the publishing industry, and it felt refreshing to hear them elaborate and expand. The fetishisation of debut authors, the privileging of youth, the sexual double standards, and the quixotic nature of an industry in which you can feel less like “dreaming than drowning” when books are cancelled - as happened with Victoria at 25 with the third part of her trilogy - were all explored. Thanks to Cat and @jessbarrattttt for the photos, (and Jess for the support and lemon drizzle cake!), and please admire the font at Sir Christopher Wren’s #stjamespiccadilly where the event took place, and where William Blake was baptised. Which was apt since there was a definite sense of less innocence, more experience, with regards publishing. Thankfully, we remain hopeful!
