What exactly is a dumpling? Why is the Asian household staple the first thing that comes to mind when we’re talking about dumplings?

Una Zhang creates experiences. Alien Archive (2024- ) is Una’s ongoing research-based project about dumplings: she researches the history, makes sculptures with preserved dumplings, and brings people together through communal dumpling-making.

At The Wedding, Una presented her preserved dumplings installation and a communal dumpling-making experience with unexpected ingredients: apples, lemons, tomatoes, kimchi, spam and so on, wrapped together in mochi dough or rice paper. Each ingredient carries its loaded history, opening up conversations about migration, geopolitics, and colonization. Una also tells us that versions of early European dumplings are made of fruit.

“I love working with food and food history because people surprise you with how creative they are. It’s a demonstration of resourcefulness and resilience,” says Una.

Last Saturday, we hosted a one-night show called The Wedding. Around 400 people joined us for an evening of art, performance, music, and community.

We’re endlessly grateful to our incredible artists, actors, DJs, technicians, and everyone who helped bring this project to life. Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us. 💍🤍

Partners Isaac Yuquan Duan (@onemorecig_) and Magicfeifei (@magicfeifei) talk about their relationship, views on marriage, and their collaborative performance/video work “to live happily ever after forever and ever.”

Magicfeifei’s practice spans photo, sculpture, and performance. She is currently a teaching fellow at UChicago. Isaac Yuquan Duan is a video and performance artist. He is currently pursuing his MFA at Columbia.

Barter with Weixi at “The Wedding,” 5/9, where she’ll be creating a wedding registry iteration of her All Can Do Service.

Artist Weixi Zhang (@weixi_vc_) offers her professional services to passersby all over NYC, in exchange for resources to sustain her life as an artist. This time, her stall was in front of the MoMA.

As a self-proclaimed Swiss Army Knife, Weixi offers an extensive list of services like paperwork assistance, haircuts, portrait painting, meal prepping, logo design.

See Hang’s green card installation at “The Wedding,” 5/9!

Who are the people behind the Time Square mascots? We met up with artist Hang Yu (@yu.7hang) at his group show at Gallery MC, where his Toy Story project was exhibited. From 2023 to 2024, Hang interviewed and photographed the people behind the Elsa’s, Minnie Mouse’s, and Spidermen circling Time Square. Tune in to hear more about this project.

Hang Yu is a NY-based artist working across photography, objects, and video. He is an MFA candidate at the Parsons Photography Program.

We followed Jiyu An (@jiu__an) around for a day as she added textures to her ceramic piece, taught a class at Slow Burn Ceramics Studio (@slowburnceramics.bk) in Gowanus, and lined her ceramic lamp at Canal Bulbs & Parts. Tune in to learn more about her relationship with rice, memory, and teaching. 🍚🌭🛋️
