Welcome to Capitol Reef National Park: This beautiful little campground is nestled along the river among old fruit trees, beside remnants of the Mormon pioneer community of Fruita, settled in 1880. Many varieties of heirloom fruit are found in Capitol Reef's historic orchards. Also pictured: the old one room school house and the road in. The route in is like the surface of Mars, before you dip down into the little secrets green oasis of ripe apricots and happy fat deer wandering through this sliver of isolated beauty. Also…. It was 114 degrees.

Antelope Island, Utah: one of my top fav camping spots for just zoning out with epic views, with nothing but the sounds of song birds and wind … and of course, wild free roaming herds of bison wandering through the campsites.

Glenns Ferry- one of the most famous and treacherous river crossings for pioneers on the Oregon Trail, until a dude named Gus Glenn built this little wood ferry here in 1869. Well done Gus… nice campground in the Snake River too. Welcome to cowboy country!
