Color in Context: Using Limited Palettes to Improve Your Color Mixing
June 11 - July 2, 2026
4 weeks, Thursdays, 6-8:30 PM
Instructor: Raymond Hummel

Color-mixing is an aspect of painting that takes a lot of practice. One way to simplify the process is by working with a predetermined, limited palette. In this 4-week course, students will learn how to control their mixes and see color relationships in context through direct observation of still life arrangements. Working in oil, they will explore a different palette each week, resulting in four harmonious color studies.
Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate

New Call for Entry!
Order and Chaos
July 31 - August 29, 2026
Deadline to Submit: July 6, 2026 at Midnight
Order and Chaos explores the tension between structure and spontaneity within abstract art. In abstraction, order may appear as symmetry, logic, or restraint, while chaos erupts as intuition, fragmentation, and unpredictability. Yet neither state exists alone. This exhibition invites viewers to consider how balance is negotiated and how beauty can arise from instability.
Juror: Ethan Meyer
Ethan Meyer (born 1990) is a painter and mixed media/fiber sculptor. He graduated with his BA in Studio Art from Webster University, St. Louis in 2013.He has worked for Duane Reed Gallery since 2015; and has been in the role of Gallery Director since 2020.His work, both in painting and sculpture, involves networks of intricately connected, overlapping, and morphing shapes and patterns, reflecting the complex and ever-changing nature of one’s own consciousness.Meyer’s work may be found in collections across the US as well as Canada, England, Germany, and New Zealand.

Image Transfers and Mixed Media- Exploring Identity and Self
July 28, 29, 30, 2026
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
10 AM - 12:30 PM
Instructor: Kristi Ponder
Age Limits: 16+
This class will focus on a variety of different ways to transfer images onto your personal artwork. We will experiment with using matte medium, baby oil, eucalyptus oil, packaging tape, and hand sanitizer as tools to transfer images onto our desired surfaces.
The goal of this workshop is to create a finished artwork that relays the artist’s identity to viewers through image transfers and mixed media.First, we will explore what identity means and includes: our interests, beliefs, morals, hobbies, personality traits, gender, ethnicity, etc. Our process will go through three steps: pre-transfer media, transfer, post-transfer media. We will experiment with transfer techniques, observe and discuss artworks that use transfers, plan, then execute a finished personal artwork based on what part of the artist’s identity they would like to communicate.
This workshop does not teach drawing and painting techniques, so artists should have a basic understanding of those mediums if they choose to explore how they work with the image transfer processes we will learn. We will be creating backgrounds for our transfers using a variety of media, but artists are also welcome to bring in any of the following: records, mirrors, previous artworks, wood boards, picture frames with glass, metal sheets, etc.

Join us for Donuts, Coffee, and Printmaking in June!
On June 20 (The 3rd Sat. of June) from 9:30-10:30am, Sheila Holloman will talk attendees through the process of sugar-lifts and aquatinting in Etching. Sheila’s work primarily focuses on etching on metal plates. Sheila has experience with many different techniques in printmaking but always falls back to etching because of its multiple applications. These include drypoint, aquatint, spit-bite, mezzotint, engraving, texture imprints and sugar-lift. Each has its own distinctive look that gives the artist endless techniques of mark making. Often depicting the natural world, Sheila is inspired by its striking beauty and mystery. In this presentation, Sheila will discuss the etching process, specifically walking attendees through how the sugar-lift solution is made and applied to the plate.
