I’ve been really getting into painting tiny originals lately. In the process of painting this series of artist trading cards I found out about an entire community I was previously unaware of. I learned what an ACEO was.
An “ACEO” is an “Art Card, Editions, and Originals” and these small pieces of art are traded amongst artists or sold at a more accessible price point, with the goal of getting original artwork into the hands of the people. I always knew they were a thing, I just didn’t know there was a name for it, and a collector base that seeks them out.
This first series of 6 is accounted for and I’m playing with the idea of doing more of them similar to my ongoing spray can series.
Full transparency, I burnt myself out doing spray cans last year. I tried to make sure every person who wanted one, got one, and because I painted so many, I literally didn’t have time to do anything else, and I don’t want to repeat that this year.
I need to have time to make work for exhibitions and make work “for the love of the game” and not be under a deadline to deliver 100% of the time. And that’s what these ACEOs have been.
Sometimes, as artists we just need some fun, no pressure, painting.

I started this sketchbook series almost exactly 1 year ago. Let me catch you up if you’re unfamiliar. I have always been envious of those artists who have a finished piece on every single page of their sketchbook. Those books almost become a portfolio.
And since every painting I create goes out the door at some point, I wanted a collection of my paintings that was just for me.
So here’s the latest installment in my sketchbook. Something about painting in this book removes the pressures of feeling like every painting I create needs to fit into “my official body of work” whatever that means.
This book is for fun. For the more whimsical ideas and working through why I don’t think my actual body of work should be more whimsical.

In honor of the start of a new season, here is the poster I did last season for the @rangers Artist Poster Series and never posted.
It was great working with the team over at @rangers again! Thank you to @john_paul_hossley for managing this project.
All the posters in this series were screen printed by hand and limited to just 6 colors. The 50 dots represent the seasons the Rangers have been in Arlington and that lone gold dot represents the 2024 Championship!
The background represents the Texas flag and bottom of the design represents toppling the Yankees and their silver jerseys with iconic navy pinstripes.
Finally I turned the ball into “The Big Apple” because what is sports without a little friendly shit-talking?!
My goal with the poster overall was to create a retro-meets-contemporary simplified design.
Here’s to a brand new season and hoping we can add a second gold dot to a new poster! Go Rangers!
