Very happy to be presenting at MIT @mitarchitecture this Thursday with @vgrossman_ on the context of the exhibition “Nature and Construction In America”, which highlights the work of the Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. It is curated by Professor Angelo Bucci, Haiyi Blue Chan, MArch’27, and Sarah Okayli Masaryk, MArch’27.
Unfortunately, due to the blizzard on the northeast coast of the U.S., my flight was cancelled, so I’ll join online and hopefully in person in the upcoming weeks.

Illustrated pages with a few reproductions and interpretations of Oscar Niemeyer’s column for my article “An Iconic Order.” They were published in ARQ magazine @edicionesarq dedicated to “American Territories.” Great to be in company of colleagues and friends I truly admire.
Thanks a lot artists @talleslopes_ and @osvaldocarvalhoartesvisuais for kindly sharing their work. Thanks to @arqguilhermedealmeida for sending me a photocopy of the Alvorada column drawn by the engineer Joaquim Cardozo. The original one was not found in time by the Brasília Public Archive.
Link in bio for the full article!
This is an extended version of the text written for the book “Cover me Softly,” edited by @chasegalis @oooooana

Finally! After 4 years of researching, writing, editing, collecting, photographing, curating, discussing, laughing, and crying, I defended my PhD thesis at ETH Zurich on March 10. Thanks to the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) and everyone who has helped me along the way!

Brutalismo Reloaded!
Obrigado @crismuniz_ @fernando__viegas e @jubrapelo convite!

Designed by Sidonio Porto in 1982 for Banco Safra, this brutalist jewel on Avenida Paulista, with landscape design by Burle Marx, was demolished in 2016. It was replaced by a generic, all-glass tower. The Burle Marx sidewalks were partially preserved [see next post].
