Vicious Charm are proud to present ‘Love Over Gold’ the new single from JIM – aka Jim Baron of Crazy P - the first new material before his sophomore LP is released in Autumn.

‘Love Over Gold’ is a gorgeous slab of unhurried, sun faded disco featuring vocals from his daughter Edie Baron. Her vocal brings a tender, youthful directness to the track, balancing vulnerability with quiet optimism as the song reflects on emotional noise, online pressure and the attempt to find light through it all.

The record follows the warmly received 2023 debut LP ‘Love Makes Magic’, an album that began as a pandemic-era studio experiment and became something of a sleeper hit. It appeared in many an end-of-year chart. Labelled variously as Balearic, folktronica, blue-eyed soul and Laurel Canyon, ‘Love Makes Magic’ was perhaps all and none of those things: a record rooted less in Californian mythology than in Baron’s own musical world, somewhere between Sherwood, Nottingham, classic songwriting, electronic soul and the no-nonsense good times that have long run through his work. Following on from Number’s previous single ‘Amber’ which included a remix from the iconic A Certain Ratio, we see them return with ‘Discoid’, taken from their highly acclaimed ‘Pollinate’ LP, this time remixed by the mighty Tranquil Elephantizer.

Tranquil Elephantizer are a producer and live-electronic/DJ project, whose sound navigates the intersection of organic rhythm, immersive texture and dance floor precision. Drawing from deep house, jazz, dub, downtempo, and psychedelic electro, their work is built around hypnotic grooves and layered percussion, with releases on respected labels such as Wicked Records, Future Boogie Recordings and Red Laser Records.

Inspired by a love of A Certain Ratio, Talking Heads, P funk and scratchy dub, NUMBER is a forward-thinking sound machine fronted by Ali Friend and Rich Thair – the co-founders and rhythm section of music pioneers and renegades, Red Snapper. Rich and Ali started NUMBER as a means of rediscovering something of what they grew up with; the dirty disco bass lines, noisy drum machines, wonky percussion, leering live drums, jagged guitar melodies and uplifting soulful songs of the 80’s.

Number - ‘Discoid’ (Tranquil Elephantizer Remixes) is due to be released on the 18th of May, whilst the original version of ‘Discoid’ is out now via Ramrock Red Records.
