Hi friends! It is time for your coffee captain, your vinyl aficionado, the aging Mod, the man in linen, to give the reins of this Insta profile to the new owners, Jacob and Signe, and their extended family of baristas, entrepreneurs and athletes. Give them a warm welcome!
When you visit the shop, you will notice some changes have already occurred, a decimated menu for instance. This is due to fact, that the owners are making it simple, scaling it down, so they can concentrate on the task of rethinking, renovating, rebuilding - not an easy task, it involves architects, engineers, and so on, in order to get the right permits. Please be patient!
As for me, it is time for something else very soon - on the job market for the first time in 20 years! I have already said yes to a job in a secret, not yet open, jazz bar, perfect for me! But I am open to other suggestions, maybe in the coffee industry or perhaps in music? Part time: max 40 hours per week.
Please keep following this page for updates of the process in Sort Kaffe & Vinyl. If you want to see what I am up to in my new chapter, I have finally made a private profile for myself - @the.man.in.linen
Again, thank you for the love and support!

Closed all week!
We are currently clearing and spring cleaning, to prepare for imminent renovations, and it’s taking a while, so the shop will be closed all week long. Back again on Monday! Really, really sorry for the inconvenience, but it is necessary..

Thank you all, for the love and appreciation, you have expressed for this little shop of coffee and vinyl and its shop keeper. It is not often, that I begin my mornings with a good, long sob, but that is exactly what happened, when I read your comments to my post about setting my shop up for sale. Very heart warming indeed.
I tip my hat and raise my cup to you all.
After my post, I quickly received more than ten offers from people interested in purchasing the locality, everything from bakery to cocktail bar. All of them sounded amazing. I finally decided on one offer: A local family, who wants to continue the shop as Sort Kaffe & Vinyl, as a family project, with coffee of the highest quality and vinyl records on the gramophone. With respect and care for the style and atmosphere, but of course with some changes. With extended opening hours and, fingers crossed, hopefully an alcohol permit.
So, the shop has been sold, and it feels really good. This, I truly believe, is what will secure the very special spirit that is Sort Kaffe & Vinyl, for years to come. Upgraded, fine tuned, ready for the future.
I will continue in the shop for some time, to make sure the transition is smooth and not rushed. You will experience some days of the shop being closed, as the new owners begin planning different renovations. Starting today, in fact: Closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week - sorry for the inconvenience, open again Thursday!
Stay tuned for any updates.
Again, thank you all!
Miracles do come true.

So, the shop is now for sale. Or “afståelse” as we call it. 92 square meters, situated on a south-east facing corner in the most beautiful street in Vesterbro; Skydebanegade. Rent is 13,5 tkr pr month. It could be a café, bakery, yarn shop, real estate broker, showroom, and with some alterations, a restaurant or bar.
Price: 600.000 kr.

That’s one scenario.

Another option could be:
A new start for Sort Kaffe & Vinyl - a new group of owners, new energy, fresh ideas, investment and renovation, enabling getting an alcohol permit, a new manager, but keeping our precious staff.

That is my dream: That someone can see the charm in what I, my friends and my staff have created over almost twenty years, but who can also see the potential of something bigger, better, faster, stronger. Well, maybe not faster.

If you are interested in either of these two scenarios, please do not hesitate to contact me at:
Sortkaffevinyl@gmail.com

If you have yet to discover the Sort K&V experience, now is a good time to do so. Stop by for a coffee, a record or perhaps one of our printed tote bags. Say hello and goodbye or arrivederci..

Thanks

Christian,

This is not a sad post.

But..
After almost twenty years of being the owner of Sort Kaffe & Vinyl, main barista, in charge of everything from ordering records, to arranging events, to daily operation, working 60-75 hours a week, with only 4 days of holiday each year, the time has come for me to take a step back. My body has been complaining for years, my knees have been shouting insults at me, and my right foot and I are no longer on speaking terms. Of course, as a gen X male in my mid fifties, I do not listen to my body at all. Luckily, I have family and friends who do, and their quiet concern have become a loud demand: I must work less.
However, working less is not really compatible with the way I have been running this little vinyl and coffee shop, in the lovely, but sleepy backstreet of Skydebanegade.
Although I see myself as someone smarter than the average bear, I am also smart enough to know, that there are people out there, much smarter than me, who could do things differently and better than me.
A British philosopher once said “If you love someone, set them free”.
I really love Sort Kaffe & Vinyl, and therefore I am now setting it free, letting it go, throwing it up in the air, hoping someone will catch it.

I would like to thank our amazing customers, who have supported us over the years, helping us get through the many challenges (The Financial Crisis, Covid-19, The Energy Crisis, The Inflation Crisis).
Thanks to all of you, who made a donation two years ago, when we were unable to pay back our corona loan.
And thanks to our fantastic staff, who really made the place the hangout it is. More than a 150 people have worked in the shop since 2006! From our first baristas, Jonatan and Sofie, who could tell I was struggling and overworked and offered their help, to the current dream team. Thank you.
Thanks to all the musicians who have performed concerts in the shop, from avant garde jazz to kraut rock - who remembers Holst & Grøndahl playing moog and saw?! Good times..
(To be continued..)

Yesterday, we were lucky to have a rare group of guests in Skydebanegade: A flock of migrating Silkehaler (Bohemian Waxwing) made a stop to feed on red berries. A beautiful sight, there must have been 25 of them!
Unrelated, we unfortunately have to close early today, Monday February 23rd, at 12, due to a staff member getting the February Fever.. We will be back tomorrow, at 8 in the morning.
Also, available in the shop at the moment is this album by Thought Leadership, come have a listen tomorrow.

As icy winds blow, chilling us to the bone, emptying the snow filled streets of Copenhagen, a good way to reheat yourself is to play some sunny tunes. We recommend these two new compilations, guaranteed to raise the temperature in any room: “Chakalaka Jazz” - Fred Sniper digs deep into the South African jazz scene. Amazing, rare tracks from 1969-2003.
“Disco Reggae” - volume 6, sun drenched cover versions of Barry White, The Bee Gees, The Seeds and others, by Soul Sugar, Taggy Matcher, Mato, and Mystic Jungle.
Let music keep you warm!

More ambient: Wonderful debut album from swedish composer Tottomori just in. For fans of Wilson Tanner, Eno, Moebius, Roedelius and Boards of Canada. Vintage synths and drum machines, guitar and piano. Although Swedish, we get a distinct Finnish feeling of childlike melancholy, like a long lost soundtrack to a Moomin Troll animated short film. Very limited pressing, in the shop now at a 300 kr price tag. Don’t sleep!
