Miss Kitty is by far my favourite alter ego & last night was one of my favourite times performing of my entire life. I called to her to show up confident, free, fun, & playful… & SHE DID.

I had theb e s ttime performing. Everything was chef’s kiss fckn MWAH! The music, the crowd, getting to perform alongside people I love so much… ASDFGHJKL!

Oh Strawbs 🍓 So much to unpack. Might as well start with my first hand-to-hand of 2025 happening at the end of this locked in flow with Nick on Friday afternoon. The second happened backstage whilst having our only run of our last-min added acro act before we opened the show curtain, & the third during the show… & it was my first time ever putting that skill onstage. Can’t wait to share the footage of the show — stay tuned 👀

I’ve spent the last week in deep discussion with myself in what I suppose had been a ritual specific version of the ideal self visualisation exercise — which essentially just means getting overly specific about what my ideal daily/weekly rituals look & feel like.

Note that I’m using the world ‘ritual’ to replace ‘routine.’
Somehow, immediately, it makes me much more keen to whatever it is I’m putting under the title.

For Saturdays, I’ve visualised Slow & Self-Care. So today, I slept in & laid in bed looking at the trees outside my window for a while. Slow. Then I made a matcha & came out to the yard to play in the sun with Zula. The deliciousness of the warm sun & Autumn breeze inspired me to spend some time, & some time on my hands, too. Self-care.

Movement medicine is my obvious self-care weapon of choice & today’s session was extremely fruitful, with many new discoveries in the upside-down realm despite the extreme luteal state of my body.

Thank you, body, for moving me through all your seasons.
Thank you, Sun, for warming my skin & giving me energy.
Thank you, Zula, for the always impeccable company.
Thann you, mind, for leaning into slowing down today, I know that can be hard for us xx

Magical things truly do happen sometimes…
Like this improv duet with someone I had never seen before in my life.

I stayed back after my performance at @thespacedancecentre on Saturday & my song came back on in the middle of the dance jam… I noticed a woman starting to dance contemporary to it & before I knew it I had emptied my pockets, thrown off my shoes, & was crawling into the floor to join her. I would have never imagined how similar our movement would be.

We immediately locked into reading each other —
Eyes, body, contact. Magic.

This type of magic, I have only ever found through dance.

It comes with a unique way of listening with your entire body; almost on a cellular level.

Time slows down, & the way you hear the music changes completely. The air grazing across your skin as you move becomes a resistant friction that informs both where you & where they are moving next, because now, somehow, we are a ‘we.’ Even if before that moment, neither knew of even the existence of the other.

We listen & simultaneously we respond.
We guide & simultaneously we react.
We touch & simultaneously we feel.
We move & simultaneously we become the moment.

I always hesitate to post whole takes but what the helly… I had so much fun opening the Dancer’s Den & what an honour it was! Everyone was bringing absolute HEAT.

Cheeky 008 —> DJ Lens

I still really struggle to call myself a DJ, both internally & externally. I guess I had always lived comfortably in the dancer/performer box. However, I learned to mix in 2018 & have always practiced since then — although, yes, mostly in the comfort of my living room, house parties, kick ons, & close friends… Until I put myself on to close Cheeky last May after realising I was having to cut the last set of the night early due to numbers at the event.

Except, that night we didn’t close early. The crowd stayed till the last minute & friends approached me after I finished playing to express their utter surprise at my mixing & the enjoyment they experienced throughout my set.

Since then, I have played every Cheeky & grown to feel a lot more pride & a lot less imposter syndrome at what I do with regards to music.

Cheeky 008 was next level.

I stuck myself between two of my favourite Melbourne artists, Ebony Willis & Lask, & (at least to me) this was a true test of my musical ability, adaptability, & confidence!

It ended up being an incredible experience — & I played one of my favourite sets I’ve ever played. Authentic to my own sound, reactive to the crowd, & most of all… I had a blast behind the decks. I also had the honour of having Nick perform fire a couple metres above me — which was absolute insanity of the best possible kind. Not to mention April’s feminist glass walking act which we planned a track for, & for which I had the best seat in the house. (Will post that soon, too, don’t worry).

The moment captured in this video is truly a treasure to me.
I can’t wait to own my music journey more from here on out.

Today I sat with the wind for a while —
Imagining I could become it.

Ironically, a very grounding experience.

It brought lightness & breath into the tips of my fingers, & for a moment my bones felt hollow.

My mind fell quiet dropping into the sensation.

Romanticising the moment, I exhaled slow & inhaled deep, filtering my inner chaos through cyclical intention in the form of air. Breath, sunshine, medicine.
