Dodder Web is mi project (daughter) exploring hyperlocal communication networks as tools of placemaking and protection. It is inspired by Dodder, a plant i’ve become obsessed with after encountering it stretched along the road last April. Dodder is a stringy yellow plant that lacks chlorophyll and has little photosynthetic capacity. It survives by twisting around and inserting roots into other plants, drawing nutrients and water directly from these plants, sometimes killing them. When Dodder connects to multiple plants, it can share messages between these plants in a formation called a “Dodder Web”.

For the past few weeks, i have been building a grief altar with sounds of grief collected, stored, and transmitted directly by a server on Dodder Web. I have been trying to experience grief as a channel of love, the stream that connects past and future love, collapsing and emerging together.
i am so grateful to everyone who has brought a message to this altar. it has been a hard but meaningful process<3
i will be continuing to add sounds to this altar. if you would like to listen or share, reach out to me .· ´¸.·*´¨

community heals all fractures
without community, we will remain in our wounds
i need us to ask : how are we present for our communities..not just for our friends, for our lovers, for our siblings.. but beyond that ~ how are we activating ourselves everyday to care for and mend relationships among all the people world building with us ?
