Jaguar Sun has spent the last few years creating the kind of music that feels easy to sink into. Built around dreamy guitars, soft textures and deeply personal songwriting, the Toronto project from Chris Minielly blends indie rock, dream pop and folk into something calm, reflective and quietly emotional.

With his latest album “Daisy” out in the world and a month-long North American tour coming to an end, Jaguar Sun is bringing those songs to the stage in a more expansive way, letting tracks grow, shift and take on new life live.

We spoke with Chris about touring, live photography, learning to feel comfortable on stage, and why capturing honest moments matters more than getting everything perfect.

The new album “Waiting Room (with the ticking time bomb)” was released April 10th via Nettwerk, and it’s a complex mix of rawness that explores themes of time, grief, structure, and travel. There’s a gritty analog sound that reminds me of 60s and 70s soul, and R&B albums, and it’s embellished by the fact that the album was recorded entirely on reel-to-reel tape. We had a bit of time to take a few portraits, and then sat down to chat — hoping to unravel some of the thread that has been weaved into Hajaj’s music…
