Mind over Matter and Soul before Flesh.

I’m my momma’s child!
quiet and divine,
but I’d trade all this growth
just to rewind time.
Even when pressure would build,
you stayed calm.
that’s a trait I carry on.
Soul divided between the four who claim your name, yet in my chest your spirit burns a deeper flame.
It lingers here, like I’m where you’re meant to be
Tell me… is it selfish that you feel like more in me?
I feel each time I speak into the universe,
you’re front row.
Cheering every blessing that finds its way to me,
proud of the presence I’m learning to be.
Every word you spoke
still echo in my chest,
so when you transcended…
it didn’t feel like rest.
Felt like a curse,
like life lost work,
like how I’m supposed to stand
when my foundation cracked?
How do I survive
without you in my skies?
The one who saw no evil
when she looked in my eyes?
The one who held me
every time I cried
21 years…
I needed more time.
We was deeper than blood,
we was soul tied,
I seen guidance, seen angels
living inside your eyes.
Now it make sense
ain’t no disguise,
the angel watching over me
is the woman who gave birth to me.
I was stubborn, couldn’t see your release.
Wish I told you more
Before you walked through heaven’s gate,
how much I love you,
how much I appreciate.
That pain hit my mind,
my heart, my mental state
had me scared to even try
to create my own fate.
But I hear you now
through faith I relate:
“Ain’t no way you falling
you’re too strong, too great.
You’re a child of an angel,
birthed by God,
that’s something they could never take.”
So here go my update, Momma
every sunrise I see your face,
every time I meditate,
your seat awaits.
I’m talking to heaven’s gate
tell ‘em sound that alarm,
cause the child that you raised
is still carrying your calm.
Before diapers, before sleepless nights,
your love was already written
in divine light.
A million stripes!
for the mother, the wife,
I’m thankful for every day
my father had you in his life.
Hey Momma…
yeah I wrote you this poem,
just to tell you your presence
still feels like home. -KB
