‘Deck Reckoning’ is a 10-minute short film that joins artist, skater, and perpetual tinkerer, Grayson Certain [@grayhoundgoods]. As he approaches completion of one of the most challenging pieces of his work yet, Certain reflects on his past struggles that shaped him into the adult he is today. Through vivid introspection and cinema vérité influence, ‘Deck Reckoning’ captures the essence of personal growth, artistry, and perseverance; culminating in a one-of-a-kind woodworking project—a canoe made from over 300 skateboards. The piece itself poetically mirrors Grayson’s own personal rise and transformation.

Such a fun story for Pennzoil and Bring a Trailer. We had a few hours to scout roads, airfields, vantage points, places that would fit our vision for the script. It all paid off, allowing us to get the final rolling shot in this piece. Great feeling getting that one in the bag! This one features Dacian and Peter Anca as we explore a father/son dynamic, what happens when a teenager faces adversity, and what role a father can play; told through a shared love of vintage auto.
