From our Fire District family to yours… today, we are incredibly grateful. ❤️

Last night’s successful local option levy outcome is more than just an election result — it is a reflection of a community that believes in its firefighters, its volunteers, and the future of emergency services in Sisters and Camp Sherman.

To everyone who took the time to ask questions, attend meetings, share information, place signs, volunteer, and most importantly vote — thank you. Your support means the world to us.

We are honored to serve this community every day, and we do not take your trust lightly. Because of your support, we can continue working to provide the level of service, response, preparedness, and protection our community deserves.

Over the next week, large campaign signs placed throughout the community will be removed by our team. If you graciously hosted a yard sign, you may drop it off anytime at our main station located at 301 S. Elm Street in downtown Sisters.

Thank you for standing beside us. We are proud to serve you — today and into the future.

🔥 It’s a great day for training!

Your Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District firefighters are spending the day at the Central Oregon Wildfire School, sharpening critical skills and preparing for the upcoming wildfire season. From fire behavior and tactical operations to teamwork and safety, this hands-on training helps ensure our crews are ready when our community needs us most.

Wildfire preparedness starts long before the first smoke column appears — and today is another opportunity to train, learn, and strengthen regional partnerships across Central Oregon.

We’re proud of the dedication our firefighters continue to show in protecting our communities, forests, and neighbors. 🚒🌲🔥

Wildfire season is approaching — are you prepared? 🔥

May is Wildfire Preparedness Month, and our partners at the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Office of Emergency Management are encouraging residents to take steps now to prepare for wildfire season.

As part of this effort, a countywide test of Deschutes Alerts will take place on Wednesday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m.

More than 70,000 residents are already signed up for emergency notifications. This annual test helps ensure the system is working properly and provides a great opportunity to verify or update your contact information.

We encourage everyone in our community to:
✅ Sign up for or update emergency notifications at deschutesalerts.org
✅ Learn evacuation levels:
• Level 1 — Be Ready
• Level 2 — Be Set
• Level 3 — GO NOW!
✅ Build or refresh your 72-hour emergency kit
✅ Create defensible space around your home
✅ Check in with neighbors or loved ones who may need assistance during an emergency

Additional wildfire preparedness information, evacuation guidance, shelter resources, and safety checklists are available through the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management page

Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

Yesterday, crews from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District partnered with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and Jefferson County Search and Rescue to assist an injured hiker on the Black Butte Trail.

The hiker requested rescue after suffering a leg injury while descending the trail. Rescuers from all three agencies hiked approximately 1.25 miles to reach the patient, provide medical care, and safely package them for transport. Crews then carried the patient out using a wheeled litter before transporting them to the hospital.

These incidents are a great reminder of the teamwork and coordination that go into backcountry rescues. We appreciate the strong partnerships with our regional SAR teams and are grateful for everyone who helped bring this rescue to a safe conclusion.

As always, when heading into the outdoors:
• Carry plenty of water
• Wear proper footwear
• Let someone know your plans
• Be prepared for changing conditions

Thank you to all personnel involved for their professionalism and teamwork.

🔥 Prescribed Fire Planned Near Sisters – May 6, 2026 🔥

The Sisters Ranger District will be conducting a prescribed burn on up to 244 acres approximately 3 miles west of Sisters near Cow Camp Campground on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

📍 Location: Township 15, Range 9, Section 11
⏰ Start Time: As early as 9:00 AM
Operations will continue until ignitions are complete or conditions become unfavorable.

This work is part of the Sisters Area Fuels Reduction Project, aimed at reducing hazardous fuels in the wildland-urban interface and helping restore forest conditions by reintroducing low-intensity fire. Central Oregon forests depend on this type of fire to stay healthy—and these treatments also help create areas that can slow or stop future wildfires.

🚨 What this means for you:

• Smoke may settle in low-lying areas overnight
• Residents are encouraged to close windows at night
• Use caution while driving in smoky areas—slow down and turn on headlights
• Individuals with heart or lung conditions, asthma, or other health concerns should consult their doctor on how to protect themselves from smoke

🌲 Learn more about smoke safety and prescribed burning:
➡️ centraloregonfire.org
➡️ www.fs.usda.gov/deschutes

📱 Stay informed:
• Follow @CentralORFire
• Text COFIRE to 888777 for wildfire & prescribed fire alerts

We appreciate your continued support as we work with our partners to reduce wildfire risk and keep our community safe.

🔥 LIGHT THE NIGHT FOR FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS 🔥

From April 26 – May 3, 2026, we invite our community to join us in honoring our nation’s fallen firefighters and their families by lighting your homes and businesses in red.

This meaningful tribute, led by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, began in 2017 during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and has grown into a nationwide show of support and remembrance.

By simply turning your lights red, you help recognize the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who gave their lives in service to others—and show their families that they are never forgotten.

❤️ Join us. Light the night. Honor the fallen.

Inspiring the next generation of emergency responders 🚑🚒

Yesterday we had the opportunity to connect with approximately 50 high school students participating in a camp designed for those interested in EMS and medical careers. Our crews shared their personal journeys into the fire service, offering insight into what led them to careers in emergency response and the many paths available in this field.

Students also had the chance to take part in a hands-on medical scenario led by AirLink Critical Care Transport, giving them a glimpse into the fast-paced decision-making and teamwork required in emergency medicine.

We’re always excited to support opportunities that help students explore careers in public service and healthcare. You never know — today’s participants may be tomorrow’s first responders.

🔥 Did You Know? 🔥

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District doesn’t just protect homes and neighborhoods within our district—we also respond to fires in the surrounding forest lands. Working alongside our wildland fire partners helps stop fires before they can grow and threaten our community. Protecting Sisters Country means protecting the forests that surround us. 🌲🚒

As you head outdoors to enjoy our beautiful public lands, please do so responsibly:

✅ Burn only seasoned firewood in designated campfire areas
🚫 Never burn trash or prohibited items—it’s harmful to the environment and increases fire risk
⚠️ Avoid burning large stumps or logs, which can smolder for hours (or even days) after you leave and lead to escaped fires
🗑️ Pack out your trash and leave your campsite cleaner than you found it

Before leaving your campsite, make sure your campfire is completely extinguished:

💧 Drown – Pour plenty of water on the fire until the hissing stops
🥄 Stir – Mix the ashes, embers, dirt, and sand thoroughly
🪵 Scrape – Break apart logs and check for hidden embers
💧 Drown Again – Add more water until everything is soaked
✋ Feel – Carefully check that the ashes are cool to the touch

If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

Let’s all do our part to keep our forests—and our community—safe this season. 🌲❤️ #OneLessSpark #CampfireSafety #WildfirePrevention #SistersCountry

Today, our crews had the opportunity to partner with the Jefferson County Search and Rescue Team to assist an injured hiker near Suttle Lake.

Rescues like this are a great reminder that emergency response often takes strong partnerships. In challenging terrain or remote locations, we frequently work alongside agencies like search and rescue teams to safely access patients, provide medical care where they are, and carefully package them for transport back to the ambulance for further treatment.

These calls can be complex and physically demanding, but through teamwork, training, and coordination, we’re able to provide the best possible care when people need us most.

Thank you to our partners for their assistance today and for helping ensure a safe outcome. We couldn’t have done it without you! If you’re heading outdoors this spring, make sure you’re prepared, know your limits, and always let someone know your plans before hitting the trail. #SistersCampShermanFire #SearchAndRescue #Teamwork #SuttleLake #OutdoorSafety
