What if Shakespeare designed the party of the summer?
A Midsummer Night’s Dream has inspired every element of this year’s ball.
In the play, lovers lose their way in the forest, fairies meddle in mortal affairs, and the ordinary world gives way to something altogether more magical. Moonlight, music, mischief, and transformation lie at the heart of the story, and that same spirit runs through the evening.
On the 26th of June, the Trades Hall of Glasgow becomes our enchanted woodland. A place to wander, feast, dance and discover. Guests will move freely through a series of immersive spaces, encountering hidden corners, unexpected performances and moments of midsummer revelry.
“If you will patiently dance in our round, and see our moonlight revels, go with us.”

Dress Code Inspiration: Titania’s Fairy Court
With a prize for the best dressed of the evening, selecting your outfit for our upcoming ball requires an added layer of consideration. The Australian Ballet’s production of ‘A Dream’ (inspired by the Shakespeare play) makes for the perfect inspiration.
Layers of translucent greens, floral adornment, and an unmistakable sense of enchantment. Antique silver, botanical details, and tulle. With a little imagination, many of these elements can be recreated through vintage and charity shop finds.

A brilliant evening at the Trades Hall celebrating tradition and craft.
The Weavers Box Opening is a chance to come together, reflect on the charitable work of the craft, and celebrate both its long history and its continuing relevance today.
Always exciting to see the work of the next generation of Scottish designers. The portfolios of @gsatextiles students were outstanding.
There’s something really special about seeing historic spaces like this filled with conversation, ideas, and new creative energy.
And there’s more to come this summer, keep an eye on @tradesball to find out more about the Midsummer Night’s Dream ball

Things I forgot to post pt.3
Some lovely press coverage for our Fashion for Social Change project earlier this year 📰
Thanks to the brilliant @gillycheung20 for helping share the press release, the project featured on the front cover and across a full page inside the Rutherglen Reformer featuring gorgeous images captured by @fmphotosx
Fashion for Social Change was an upcycling design challenge, created in collaboration with @sheltershopsscotland We asked designers to transform donated rag stock into runway-ready eveningwear inspired by Scottish textile heritage, and the @tradeshouse with its 14 crafts.
The project was created to draw attention to the growing issue of textile waste and the reality of our throwaway culture. Much of the clothing entering charity-shop rag systems is now so low in value that rag prices are collapsing, despite the industry’s enormous environmental impact.
The project aimed to show that there is still incredible value in discarded textiles when they’re placed in the hands of creative people. The garments produced for the project were thoughtful, skilled, sustainable, and deeply rooted in Scotland’s heritage of making.
Huge thank you again to everyone involved in bringing the project to life, and to the Rutherglen Reformer for helping us share the story.

Rags to riches, quite literally✨
These are five of the six upcycled outfits created for our Fashion for Social Change design challenge. Each look was made entirely from rag stock donated to Shelter Scotland: the clothing that can’t be sold in-store.
THE BRIEF
Designers were challenged to create a show stopping outfit inspired by Scotland’s textile heritage and the historic Trades House.
They took garments that were too damaged to be sold in the charity shops, and transformed them into looks worthy of a night at one of Glasgow’s most iconic venues.
ABOUT SHELTER SCOTLAND
Shelter Scotland’s mission is to fight the housing emergency and support people experiencing homelessness or unsafe housing.
The fashion challenge connects directly to this mission: the better we use donated stock, the more funds and awareness we generate for the work Shelter does every single day.
THANK YOU
To our incredible designers:
@emmadianecorcoran @franzmaggs @_gadgie @jjoshjjensen @may_macaulay
(And to Krishma, whose outfit sadly arrived too late for this shoot, but was shown beautifully on the night.)
To our photographer @fmphotosx for capturing the collection so perfectly. To our model @gillycheung20 who brought each outfit to life.
To the team at the Trades Hall and the Incorporation of Weavers, for welcoming us into such a meaningful, historic space.
To the volunteers, stylists, assistants and friends who helped behind the scenes: thank you for every rail lifted, every steamer plugged in, every last-minute fix!
And to @shelterscotland for trusting this idea and for the work they do, every day, for people who need it most.
This project is proof of what’s possible when creativity, heritage and community come together. And it’s a reminder that even in the face of overwhelming waste, there is still so much worth saving.

Rag is about to lose 50% of it’s value, but these showstopping outfits show it can be worth so more. With just a little ingenuity, and a heap of creative talent.
Behind the scenes from Thursday morning’s photoshoot a first look at five of the upcycled outfits created for the Fashion for Social Change challenge. (The sixth design arrived a little later in the day, so sadly wasn’t able to be photographed here.)
All of these pieces were made from rag stock donated to Shelter Scotland. Rag is the clothing that can’t be sold: often damaged, poor quality, or leftover fast fashion. And right now, the value of rag is set to fall by 50%, to only 5p per kilogram.
That drop is a direct reflection of how much clothing is being thrown away. Even the rag merchants are inundated with more than they can process. We’re producing far more than the system can handle, and the planet is paying for it.
And yet, look at what’s possible. These designers took textiles deemed “worthless” and transformed them into garments full of imagination, heritage, and craft. Their work is a reminder that value isn’t found in price tags: it’s found in creativity, skill, and community.
This project shone a light on the issue, but also on the hope: Scotland’s creative talent is extraordinary, and together we can keep textiles in circulation and push back against our throwaway culture.
Think you could help us save clothing from being sent to the rag? We would love to hear from you for our ongoing upcycling efforts!
Huge thanks to everyone who helped on the day ❤️

Thank you, Glasgow. For making last night at the Trades Hall such a success.
To everyone who came along thank you for bringing your energy, your enthusiasm, and your love for sustainable Scottish fashion. Seeing the room filled with so many supportive faces meant more than I can say.
To the incredible designers who poured their creativity into the upcycled pieces… to the volunteers and staff who worked behind the scenes… to the DJ, makers, friends, family, and the brilliant team at Shelter Scotland… thank you. You helped turn a simple idea into a night full of beauty, purpose, and community.
And to the Incorporation of Weavers and the Trades Hall for hosting us in such a historic and inspiring space we are so grateful for your support.
So many fabulous photos of last night that @fmphotosx took, here’s one of me for now, while I sort through them all to show you.
