Radiant Reverie
48x48β oil on wood panel
This piece is the first in a small series of paintings that I am doing to take my work to the βnext levelβ technically. Iβve recently switched back to working with oils, which I have been loving, and have been spending the extra time to incorporate the level of realism into the paintings that Iβve been wanting to add.
Iβm still employing the panelism and impasto brushwork but more subtly because I want to focus on realism for a little while. Then, it looks like the journey will to take that realism to a more expressive place by incorporating more of the abstract, and impressionistic elements Iβve employed in earlier work.
Sometimes it seems as if there is a torrential resistance trying to keep you from making the art you were meant to make. The key is to never give up and always be refining and evolving. Through your continued efforts, beginning again and again, and constantly recalibrating your attention when you get knocked off course, you will make progress towards your goals! Go for it! Never give up!

Friends (Under Ember Skies) is heading of to its home today after getting varnished and framed. This piece sold at the @bigskyarts art auction in February for double retail and was the highest selling piece at the auction. It also opened the door for more commissions that Iβm currently working on and excited to share soon. I feel very grateful, blessed, and privileged to get to do what I love for a living.

Hyalite Reservoir. One of my favorite places. I am blessed to get to spend time in beautiful locations. From white sand beaches to the mountains! Beautiful landscapes play a huge role in inspiring me to paint.

This Friday is called good because God brought infinite good out of the greatest evil.

Beneath the quiet governance of eve,
When last light kindles fire along the snow,
I watched a solitary rider weave
A silent serpentine of silver flow.
The ridge, austere, received him without sound;
So brief the mark his passing there had found,
The mountains blushed beneath the fading day.
Luminous it shone, then slipped away.
From where I stood above the silent run
I felt the deep, bright summons of the height
To chase the line his fleeting course had spun
Across the steep and deep in dying light.
And when at last I lay my brushes down,
This rider, caught in color, flame, and time,
Shall live beyond the falling of the sun
Within the quiet keeping of this rhyme.
Where Big Sky kept its revel bright and high,
And Mardi colors crowned the lively night
I finished the painting with a sigh,
For judging eyes beneath the lights.
The bids ascended, eager, clear, and fast,
Until the final voice prevailed at last
The mountain called to each in turn
And won the gold the slope had earned.

What a night! I got to meet a bunch of great people and raise some money for @bigskyarts. I had a great time and couldnβt have done it without my wife, @vavacelli holding it down at home with two toddlers and our 6 week old baby (sheβs amazing), and the help of my good friends who have supported and encouraged me as an artist. Ultimately you have to believe in yourself to make it as an artist, but it sure does help when youβve got some cool people that do too!
My painting, Friends went for twice market value. And this painting of a skier went for full value at the live auction.
