Had the opportunity to share space with the Cybersecurity Pathway cohort at WMCAT this week and I’m still thinking about that session 💻🔥
We had some real conversations about what it actually takes to step into new spaces and win… not just technically, but mentally and strategically.
I shared a moment from a recent GQ interview with Jay-Z. They asked him how he made the transition from the streets to the boardroom… building across industries as a music executive, sports owner, and owner of multiple alcohol brands 🏆🥂
His answer was simple:
“I walk into every room as myself.”
That line set the tone for everything.
We talked about: 💡 Staying consistent even when results don’t show up right away
🫱🏿🫲🏾 Building real relationships that open doors
🧠 Using AI to work smarter, not harder
🚀 Creating opportunities instead of waiting on them
💯 Showing up as yourself every single time
♻️ The Power of Habit and the habit loop framework
Biggest message I left them with:
It’s not just about what you know… it’s about who you connect with and what you consistently do over time.
Proud of this group and excited to see what they achieve as the next generation of cyber security leaders 🔥
If you’re looking to level up your team around leadership, Responsible AI implementation and loteracy, or real-world execution, let’s connect.

This past weekend in Los Angeles was unforgettable. I had the honor of attending the 57th NAACP Image Awards as a representative of NAACP Greater Grand Rapids and our partners at the NAACP National Center for Environmental & Climate Justice and Climate Action Campaign.
One of the most powerful moments was getting the chance to talk about environmental justice and climate change on the red carpet. The environmental justice movement was started by Black communities who refused to accept pollution and toxic industries in our neighborhoods. From Warren County, North Carolina to communities like 48217 in Southwest Detroit, the fight for clean air and healthy communities continues.
It was powerful to bring that message into a cultural space that celebrates Black excellence.
The weekend also included brunch at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills and closing out my last day in LA with a Los Angeles Lakers game before heading home.
Grateful for the opportunity to represent this work on a national stage. Environmental justice on the red carpet. Bringing EJ to the big stage and making history. 🌍✊🏾

Woke up this morning at a loss for words. As someone who has dedicated over a decade of my life to social justice, civil rights, and the liberation of Black people, I am heartbroken by the passing of civil rights hero Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Especially in today’s political climate, and in the heart of Black History Month, his transition feels even heavier. Rev. Jackson didn’t just march, he shifted the direction of policy, expanded voting rights, and demanded that elected officials be accountable to the people they serve. So much of what we now call civic engagement, coalition building, and political empowerment was shaped by his courage and vision.
As someone who frequently engages with elected officials around equal rights, ending racial discrimination and policy reform, who has made countless visits to Capitol Hill and fought to overcome injustice in real time, this one hits deep. The very pathways many of us now walk were paved by his organizing, his sacrifice, and his relentless belief in the power of our people.
He opened doors, built platforms, and reminded us that our voices mattered at the ballot box, in the streets, and in the halls of power. That legacy lives on in every advocate, organizer, every voter, and every young leader stepping forward to continue the fight.
It’s a tough pill to swallow, but the work will continue in his name until our people are truly free from oppression and recognized as the kings and queens we are. Today, I’m taking time to rest, reflect, and honor the path he cleared for all of us.
“Hold your head high, stick your chest out. It gets dark sometimes, but morning comes. Keep hope alive.”-Rev. Jesse Jackson

Still energized from yesterday at Grand Valley State University 🔥🤖⚖️
Grateful for the chance to talk AI & Civil Rights with students who showed up curious, engaged, and unafraid to ask real questions 🧠💡. These conversations are necessary.
Huge appreciation to Professor @mark_j_richards and the @gvsu_naacp chapter for the continued partnership 🙌🏾
S/o to President Cle Jackson and NAACP Youth Council members Randon and Shaheed for pulling up and adding to the moment ✊🏾✨

AI is already shaping who gets hired, housed, policed, and heard.
Join me for a real conversation on AI, civil rights, and what responsible leadership looks like in this next era.
📍 GVSU | Feb 5 | 4:00–5:30 PM
Let’s talk power, policy, and people.

Just over a week ago, I was in NYC for the first Microsoft AI Tour of the year at the Javits Center 🗽
A lot of learning. Real conversations. Honest dialogue about where AI is headed and the responsibility that comes with this moment.
AI has real potential to improve lives, but only if sustainability 🌱, accountability, and inclusion are part of the foundation. I’m excited to keep building at the intersection of AI literacy and responsible implementation so these tools actually serve people, especially communities that have historically been left behind.
Outside of the conference the city was amazing andleft me inspired and reinvigorated 🔥
NYC highlights: 🍽️ Philippe Chow🐼
🏀 Knicks at Madison Square Garden
👟 Flight Club NYC
💨 Cigars at Club Macanudo + Davidoff of Geneva Lounge
📍 Harlem stop at UP NYC
🍛 Jamaican food from Blue Mountain Heights 🔥
🎥 Full recap video drops tomorrow. Stay tuned 👀✨

Let’s speak the truth for a second.
Data centers are not the economic win they’re often marketed as. They use massive amounts of energy and water, require expensive grid upgrades, and those costs usually end up on ratepayers’ bills.
The jobs story gets oversold too. Construction is temporary and often outsourced. Once a data center is up and running, the permanent jobs are limited compared to the size, footprint, and energy demand.
This isn’t anti-tech. Its people first !
If communities are hosting the infrastructure of the digital economy, they deserve real benefits. That means 100% renewable energy and legally binding community benefit agreements so overburdened communities actually win in this transition.
I broke this down in EM Magazine.

This one is bigger than me. 🏆
Grateful beyond words to the Grand Rapids Area Black Businesses (GRABB) for this recognition — it truly means a lot.
This moment belongs to my family, my ancestors, and especially my mother, who prayed for this and has always been my greatest supporter. Her faith, sacrifice, and love laid the foundation for everything I’m building today ❤️🙏🏾
I carry my last name with pride and responsibility. Everything I do is about honoring where I come from and changing what comes next.
This award represents changing the trajectory — ending generational curses and building generational wealth. Longevity matters.
I’ve seen firsthand how inherited opportunity works — sitting at tables where enterprises were built long before the current generation arrived. That’s not coincidence. That’s legacy.
Now it’s our turn to plant seeds that outlive us 🌱
As John Hope Bryant said:
“We have mastered culture, community, cool, and creativity. Now all we have to do is switch to mastering capitalism and commerce in a new community.”
We already lead in influence. Now it’s time to lead in ownership.
And remember:
“Nothing transformational ever seemed realistic in the beginning.”
