Deep pilgrimage to Cape Town where my beautiful mum was born in β€˜52.
She was 8 years old when they fled to England after my grandfather was accused of treason for opposing apartheid along with Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Joe Slovo and 152 others of the movement.
A place of immense natural beauty, I’m grateful to have gotten the chance to visit and close a circle after mum transitioned in January this year.
Legally apartheid is over but the lack of financial/land reparations after the Truth and Reconciliation commission in β€˜96 means that economic apartheid still exists. It’s a problematic place. But where isn’t colonialism a problem?
You can see the mountains from everywhere in the city and as I moved around, I couldn’t help thinking it’s the same mountains that my mum and grandparents looked up and saw every day all those years ago.
If the mountains could speak they’d have a million stories to tell.
Made me think of the last part of this beautiful poem on death by the great Kahlil Gibran:

β€œOnly when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.” Kahlil Gibran

Vision, came out yesterday.
.
My role in this song is minimal but getting a credit amongst these heroes is such a massive honour πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
Studio session wt @common and @bilalmusic and @justpeej working on a @9thwonder beat was a dream!
The track also features another big hero @jamespoyser - I got to play some Rhodes at the end of the track over James’ beautiful piano πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
.
So grateful for the opportunity and inspired to be in the mix with such heavyweights.

An epic Glastonbury to say the least πŸ’œ
Had to post this pic to the grid cos I love a double keys setup 🎹🎹
Big love to the wizard @harvey_dweller for sharing the sandpit with me and to the killers@ideophone_music @leotaylorgrooves @cameroncdawson @sayabarbaglia @olisavill and @kaikwasi for another amazing experience on The Other Stage AND especially to @joycrookes and all the artists that are using their platform to speak out against injustice and in support of the Palestinian people and against the on going genocide supported by our government.
FREE PALESTINE πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰

β€˜For Eden’ @lyvesmusic wt additional prod, drum recording and keys from yours truly.
I’m so proud of this production, was able to get a great drum sound with the legend @dansee28 (and before the control room was renovated at the studio) after tracking some felt piano and some synths over what Francesca brought in, but more than anything I think this is such a beautiful and important message in this song (co/write @mariachiara.t ), handled so tastefully and with so much grace and as ever an incredible vocal performance from Francesca.
Go check it out, the song deals with issues around mental health.
I’m such a fan of you @lyvesmusic πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
Honoured to be involved on this one.
