A parting gift from Ferrari to one of its longest-serving modern Formula 1 drivers.
When Felipe Massa took delivery of this LaFerrari in October 2014, it marked the closing chapter of a relationship that had defined more than a decade of his career. Having joined Scuderia Ferrari as a test driver in 2003 before graduating to a full-time Formula 1 seat alongside Michael Schumacher, Massa would go on to deliver 11 Grand Prix victories and help secure Ferrari’s 2008 Constructors’ Championship, missing that same year’s Drivers’ title by a single point.
It was during Massa’s departure from Ferrari that this particular LaFerrari was delivered new to his Monaco address. One of just 499 coupes produced, the car was specified in Nero over Nero Alcantara with subtle Rosso Corsa accents throughout, while its personalized details speak directly to the relationship between driver and manufacturer. Between the seats, the car’s dedication plaque bears the words “Grazie Felipe,” signed by then Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo.
Remaining with Massa until 2021 and showing fewer than 4,000 km from new, the car has since been maintained exclusively by Denmark’s official Ferrari dealer, Formula Automobile A/S. More than simply a low-mileage LaFerrari, it stands as a deeply personal piece of modern Ferrari history tied to one of the Scuderia’s defining drivers of the 2000s.

With @000magazine’s show @rareshades taking over this weekend in New York City, we thought it was the perfect excuse to look back at a few of the standout Paint to Sample examples we’ve had the opportunity to handle over the years. The right specification can completely transform a car, and these are some that have stayed with us long after they left.
Our very own Esteban Larranaga and Taylor Lex will both be at Rare Shades throughout the weekend taking in some of the best specifications and most interesting cars anywhere on the enthusiast calendar. If you see them around, be sure to say hello. #RMSothebys

From British Racing Green to Zanzibar Red, Albert Blue to Arancio Borealis, some colors define a car.

Every legend has a starting point, and for Valentino Rossi it was this RS125R.
At just 17 years old, Valentino Rossi arrived in Grand Prix racing with long hair, raw speed, and something to prove. Riding for Scuderia AGV Aprilia during the 1996 125-cc World Championship season, Rossi lined up for his first-ever Grand Prix aboard this very 1996 Aprilia RS125R, frame no. 1291195. What followed was the beginning of one of the most important careers in motorcycle racing history.
Over the course of the 1996 season, Rossi raced this RS125R from Malaysia to Suzuka, Mugello to Donington, steadily building momentum before stepping onto his first Grand Prix podium in Austria. Then came Brno. On 18 August 1996, this very motorcycle carried Rossi to his maiden Grand Prix victory, the first of 115 wins that would ultimately establish “The Doctor” as the defining rider of the modern MotoGP era.
Still presented in its preserved Scuderia AGV Aprilia livery and adorned with Rossi’s iconic number 46, the motorcycle remains powered by the very 125-cc two-stroke engine used during that breakthrough victory in the Czech Republic. Accompanied by factory team sheets documenting each of its 1996 race entries, this is not simply a Grand Prix motorcycle. It is the opening chapter of a legend.
