A cracking day out with @centurionrunning on Saturday at the South Downs Way 50. I set out wanting to run a sub 8, if everything went perfectly. Thanks to ridiculously strong winds on the tops blowing me along - I got in with just over 4 minutes to spare. 07:55:38
Says something that this year my time was good enough for 35th; and last year it would have been 14th! Very favourable conditions!
Thanks to everyone that volunteered at the event - making Centurion events so special.
I'm also thankful to @camino_ultra and @david_camino_ultra_bone for the last two years of training. I wouldn't have thought this sort of time was possible not too long ago.

Spent a week down in the #southwestcoastpath in Maenporth with the family. Given the recent weather, we really lucked out and could only complain about the wind. Not the most appropriate taper week ahead of SDW50 on Saturday - also given the amount of train travel to get to Worthing. But the time on the trails seems to have been worth it.

A Christmas trip back to Lincolnshire - wouldn't be complete without some runs into the countryside. And the Boxing Day sunshine really brought out the best of the countryside!
Today an explore of some more of the paths in the Wolds. Which continued to show that some farmers just don't care about keeping paths clear that go straight across their fields. So I will therefore just trample through the mud anyway.
And a trip back to my secondary school for parkrun on Xmas day. Bit of a weird feeling to go back 21 years since my last visit. But it's now got a parkrun (4 laps of the field perimeter) and begins with Q, so is quite handy for the alphabet.

More exploring potentially to come before I leave!!

God's Own Backyard Ultra - the one where I finally got a result that starts with a 3.

It was my fourth time back here - and has a little community that I have gotten to know and value. Thanks to them for being kind, welcoming and great company.
Thanks also to @hughlund for coming to crew. It's so much better having an extra min or two between each loop, knowing you have someone to chat/complain to, and someone to hold you accountable for your choices.
And thanks to @camino_ultra for the journey here, and the messages during the event!

The race, broadly, went well. Managed my feet despite all the water and mud. Nutrition could have been better but I largely kept at least my gel schedule in place. And at no point until the last 2 laps did I think was body was going to give out.

Lots of things go through your mind when you're running 16 back to back towpath out and backs. But for the moment, let's say I'm going to promise that getting 30+ means I don't need to do another one anytime soon.

Not many photos of this one, because quite frankly the weather was horrid. Storm Claudia through the night before and the remnants thereafter.

Greece - Part 2 - Athens
A couple of days being a tourist in Athens post Spartathlon. Doing the usual tourist stuff, Olympic Stadium, Acropolis & museum, Plaka/Monastraki, etc.
Unfortunately the weather didn't play ball that much, turning the streets into raging rivers. And also Robbie Williams decided to take over the stadium....

Spartathlon '25 - a crewing experience like no other.
Last weekend I had the privilege of crewing @anna_anna_brown, as part of @british_spartathlon_team , on her second running of #Spartathlon, a 153 mile race from the Acropolis in Athens to the feet of Leonidas in Sparta. Unfortunately on this occasion, due to picking up an injury, we had to stop at the bottom of the mountain around 105 miles in. But it was one hell of a ride to get there, and 21 hours of mixing Mediterranean sun with a rather unseasonal deluge through the night.
I also got rather lucky, in that @annabenger joined me for the ride as her brother was also in the race. And the company soothed my anxiety and nerves about doing the right thing.
The journey from Athens to Sparta is a real mix of environments. Some of the countryside beautiful, full of spectacular views. Other bits, like the 2 hour wait outside a dusty factory near a highway, less appealing. But all part of the experience.
The intention for coming out - other than being helpful(!) - was to experience the race and decide if it's for me in the future. Who knows...

Malta part 2: Mdina and Victoria Lines
Managed to escape the ex pat mecca of the bays to go inland to Mdina (another tourist hot spot). The old city was beautiful and well worth the trip. I've really enjoyed the old cities here, much more so than the beach holiday vibes.
Then a hastily set up sunrise trail run along the Victoria Lines (a walk defense) with @mikiruns, who @david_camino_ultra_bone and @camino_ultra linked me in with. Always love getting out into the middle of nowhere, and this didn't disappoint! Back to Sliema in time for late breakfast and then hotel check out!
Now to Greece....!

Always love getting out into the middle of nowhere, and this didn't disappoint! Back to Sliema in time for late breakfast and then hotel check out!
Now to Greece....!

Malta - part 1: started off with some sightseeing in Valletta, which whilst packed with history and despite all the crowds, has a great charm to it. Staying over the water in Sliema is a great location - and managed to get a couple of runs in. One up the coastal road through the bays to St Paul's. The other along the Xemxija Heritage Trail to Golden Bay and back.
Two more days to go, and then on to the main event in Greece....

A brief excursion away from the city life - to breathe a bit of joy back into running after a summer of not really being able to do what I want.
The Malvern Hills are a place I've wanted to visit since a colleague, @mariacrawfs , posted some corking photos on Slack. So here I am, and she kindly took me up to Worcestershire Beacon viewpoint - and the sunset really played ball too.
Early morning train to Ledbury for a run back to Malvern along the hill line today - to complete the sightseeing tour. Might need to do a bit more training before tackling that route again!

Yesterday into the early hours we completed the entirety of the Capital Ring in one go.
We set off at sunrise on Saturday with Susan, Rolo and Zorro for their marathon, and joined by Rich for hackney. Then Brad and I covered the other two marathons and finished after sunrise this morning.
Scorching conditions didn't stop us 💪🏼

SDW100 - take 2
A much stronger race this year than last, but a completely different experience too. This time my weakness was the middle third, illustrated by a fall and being a bit of an emotional mess.
But the last third - really felt like a win and progress in my running. Being able to actually run so much more in the back end of a race than ever before - and pounding round the track in Eastbourne at sub 5mins/km. Need to take that and the associated confidence into the next races.

Knocked nearly an hour off the time from last year. And whilst there is probably a little more room get even quicker, I'm more than content with this result.

As ever, a fantastic event put on by @centurionrunning and now part of @worldtrailmajors . It might be bigger now than before, but it still has the same amazing community and volunteers making it fantastic.

Thanks to @daznbone and @camino_ultra for the training, preparations and love!

Just spent a week out on the North Norfolk coast, experiencing some of the coastal path, Peddars Way and whatever other footpaths I could cobble together.
Such a great place to run, and so nice to have had weather that I could see over to Skegness/Gibraltar Point where I started a run at Easter.
There's something cool about running in such tide affected places, where going 6 hours later can give you a massively different experience.
That was my one last big week before SDW100, and as if I needed any more motivation to get out - the possibilities to be explored were just too much!
