A simple pour today with some learnings:

My espresso shot was too thin and the crema layer was a bit clumpy. Milk was slightly thin too. So even though my spout was close, the design didn't flow out well and the lines were a bit "warbly". Will grind finer next time and add slightly more air to the milk.

Still tasted great! 😊 This dark roast by Red Bay Coffee Roasters is closer to the medium-dark side (insert Star Wars joke) and has some caramel-like brightness in a latte.

It's not perfect by any means, but it's nice to see the progress over time since day 1. And I've learned a lot about cortado art, thanks everyone! 😊

💡 Today's latte art learning is on temperature. If you don't want your designs to bleed out or dissolve quickly after you pour, don't steam at a temperature that's too high! (E.g. past 140F). The microfoam will be even more stable if it's fairly lower temp, like ~100-120F. This is especially helpful for any designs that take longer to pour, like free pour animal designs with lots of dragging involved. Of course, if you care most about taste, then steam to whatever temp you prefer!
