John Trauscht
Senior Graphic Designer at @Pixar … Also known for my time working at Big Idea.

I was recently interviewed by @bymonotype for their Creative Characters Podcast at the Pixar campus (interview link in bio). Despite wishing that I would have answered a couple questions differently, it was a lovely experience, and my interview hosts Bill and Mia were delightful. — They wanted some images to use in their Instagram post to promote the episode. Due to legal hurdles, I was unable to provide them with any existing IP, which is most of what I do and have done. Instead, I gave them some pieces that I did for #inktober, pre-Pixar. — I reposted a few of these a while back. Resharing those now PLUS a few more!😄#lettering #typography

Today’s the day! HOPPERS is opening this weekend in theaters across the globe to fantastic reviews. Guys, it’s SO GOOD! … BTW, while I work at Pixar, this is not an official company account. Any reference to other mammals is meant purely for a chuckle from the 150 people that will actually see this post.😂

In the late 1980s when I was attending Loyola University of Chicago, I was a staff reporter at our college paper – The Phoenix. At that time, Jessie Jackson, who was at the height of his prominence and influence, was promoting the use of a term that was fairly new to many people – African American. As a young, white male from the suburbs, use of the term confused me… If I was “white”, why was it a problem for someone else to be “black”? So I did something that very few people today do – I wrote a letter to him, and I asked him about it. I honestly did not expect much back beyond a form letter thanking me for my interest, or something similar. To my surprise and delight, a couple weeks later I received a thoughtful, two-page reply. Reverend Jackson explained to me the significance of identity and cultural pride. It was not something that I had considered before. But more than anything, I was beyond impressed that this busy, nationally in-demand leader would take the time to respond to me in such a personal way. – I still have the letter. – RIP Jessie Jackson – Well done.

I visited the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta with my family this weekend. It was amazing. So much wonderful work. Put it on your bucket list!💚
