About last night!

I got to interview four incredible adventurers to learn from their experience of leadership, failures, injuries, motivation, drive and successes in their careers.

Paula Reid told us about the importance of mindset when she got polar thigh trekking the South Pole and had to keep going.

Matt Garman taught us the value of having difficult conversations and working as a team when swimming the channel.

Maddie Difazio-Wright reminded us that we are so much more than our job titles after rowing 3000 miles as a skipper and dealing with a giant marlin attack.

And Neil Laughton made us believe we were all capable of doing anything we put our minds to after he hosted the world's highest dinner party!

This training was a total game changer for our team AND community.

Our team at PLATF9RM had an amazing neurodiversity training session with Jess Rad of @thewomen_hood

Brighton & Hove could probably be labelled the UK’s neurodiversity capital, the stats certainly show it.

There are a couple pillars of data to back this:

🎓 In Brighton and Hove, 18% of pupils are on SEN support vs 14.2% nationally, nearly 27% higher than the UK average

📚 5.8% of pupils have an EHCP, compared to 5.3% across England

♥️ Brighton & Hove City Council says the city’s autistic population is likely to be significantly higher than the national average

🏡 Neurodiversity typically runs genetically

🏳️‍🌈 An estimated 30% to 70% of neurodivergent people also identify as LGBTQIA+, with the greatest overlap found within the autistic community

✨ The logical chain is clean: Brighton has the highest LGBTQ+ population in England (10%+ vs 3% nationally; Kemptown at 20%)

💖 30-70% of neurodivergent people also identify as LGBTQ+ Therefore Brighton’s ND population is structurally amplified by its queer demographics

As a space that supports over 1,000 members of our community, creating an environment where everyone feels genuinely welcome isn’t optional, it’s essential.

We explored how we can better adapt our spaces for neurodivergent people, support our neurodivergent members, and make sure our team feels supported too.

We can proudly say that neuroinclusivity is becoming one of the key pillars of what we offer at PLATF9RM.

Now, we have a clear pathway for the next stage of our evolution.
