@karolinanoreewild recently joined us as a Tour Guide on our Tigers of India Photo Tour and what a trip it was👏

The group enjoyed some incredible sightings, so we caught up with Karolina after to hear her top tips for photographing tigers:

- Patience is everything. Sometimes you’re waiting for hours with nothing happening but when it does, it’s worth it.

- Trusting the guides was key too. They know the tigers, their movements, and when to hold out for something better.

- When it all comes together, it happens fast. You might only get a few seconds as a tiger crosses the road, so staying calm and shooting with what you’ve got is crucial.

Want to experience it for yourself? Spaces are available on our 2027 tour, explore more through the link in our bio🔗

Shooting in forest light can be tricky, but we spoke to photographer Pandora Maund to find out how she approaches these low-light, high-contrast conditions🌿

Here's what we learnt:

- It’s often a case of compromise, balancing shutter speed and ISO to get the best result the conditions will allow.

- In the forest, it pays to slow down. Look for pockets of light and wait for your subject to move through them. Notice the dapples and shadows, and use them to shape the image.

- Shooting slightly wider can help, by in letting in more light and giving you a little more forgiveness than a tight close-up.

Forest photography rewards patience, so it’s important to about read the environment and making deliberate choices. The light is rarely ideal, but working with those limitations instead of trying to fight them, is often what makes an image really stand out📸

Want to photograph Botswana's best kept secret?📸

The Tuli Block is a striking canvas, home to a spectacular variety of wildlife, from cheetahs and lions to jackals and honey badgers. It is also a bird enthusiasts paradise, where Verreaux Eagles command the skies.

Rocky plains, wide riverbeds and giant trees offer an incredible backdrop for wildlife photography, and the lower tourist numbers create the feel of a private experience.

"The image is built around contrasts: warm versus cold, fertility versus barrenness, life versus erosion, soft delicate shapes versus hard angular patterns."

Captured by Anna Sadowski in Utah’s badlands, this striking image was selected as a finalist in our 2025 Travel Photography Competition.

Anna was drawn towards the striking opposition between the cool, blue tones of the eroded badlands and the warm, golden leaves of the cottonwood tree standing in the foreground.

Tips from the field📸🌿

We spoke to professional photographer and tour guide Alan Hewitt, about how he captured this shot of a Chacma Baboon in the Tuli Wilderness:

"I noticed this chacma baboon sitting in a tree with the rising sun directly behind. With animals that have loose, shaggy hair this creative lighting can work really well. The light catches the edges of the fur and creates a strong rim of highlights around the subject.

Baboons, hyenas and male lions are all good candidates for this sort of backlighting. The trick is to underexpose, often significantly, so the highlights in the hair don’t lose detail. That way the rim light holds detail while the rest of the animal drops into shadow.

It turns the subject into shape and texture rather than a normally lit portrait, and it only really works when the sun is low and you can line everything up properly."

Photographers join our Humanitarian Photography Workshop to immerse themselves in real social impact work, using their skills in a practical, meaningful setting. In return, the organisations they work with come away with a strong bank of visual content to support their storytelling and outreach.

Among these partners is Community Keepers, an organisation that has been supporting at-risk children in South Africa since 2008. In our recent blog, we spoke to Amy Potgieter as she shares more about their approach, the challenges they face, and what meaningful support looks like in practice.

This year, she’s back, but this time she’s on the other side of the lens, joining us as guide for our brown bear photography workshop in Slovenia🐻

Ahead of the trip, we caught up with Pandora to talk about her journey into photography, what inspires her work, and what participants can expect not only from the bears, but from her as a guide.
