Every #Pride, but especially this Pride, make sure to take the time to reflect on and express gratitude for the Black and POC Trans activists that started the riots that led to a revolution that has greatly benefited modern LGBTQ+ people.
As a white, more male-presenting, able-bodied person, I will never know the struggle of those who are both gay and another minority. But intersectionality is of the utmost importance always, but especially this year. This year, in celebrating Pride, we must support the Black community. A film version of Larry Kramer's iconic text, an A-List cast brings to life a heartbreaking but important story. While I have been hesitant to feature more stories about the AIDS crisis, this one stands as a classic among works of art that capture this moment in time. This is thank to the deeply affecting work of the cast, epsecially Matt Bomer and Julia Roberts. And while this isn't the most innovative film, Larry Kramer is an absolute icon in the community as a writer and activist, and this is a vital work in his ouvre.

Day twenty-eight #pride pick is #Blockers!

I remember seeing this in theaters with low expectations and being shocked by the sub-plot of a lesbian coming out and then pursuing her crush. Yes, it's the like d-story of the film, but the fact that it was a heartfelt, non-mocking queer story in a studio raunch-comedy? Groundbreaking to me. Pair this with Dave Franco's character marrying a man in Neighbors 2 and you get a double feature of left-field yet touching queer love stories in surprisingly progressive studio comedies.

Say twenty-seven #pride pick is #Pride!

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, I wanted to choose a film that shows the roots of change for another queer movement. In 80s UK, miners across the country are striking. A group of queer organizers identify with their outsider status and persecution from the Thatcher government, and become closely entwined with a town of Welsh miners, raising tons of money and offering support. While the film certainly has Rose colored glasses and does not offer the most complex or challenging portrayal of organization and protest, it completely earns its moments of joy, tears, and laughs. Inspiring without ever sacrifing it's entertainment value, this is a highly enjoyable historical tale.

One of the best films of last year, this sexually-fluid film follows two women as they manipulate the queen for favor, power, and status. The trio of leads are all perfect, delivering acidic witticisms while still finding small moments of empathy and humanity. If you missed this movie, absolutely seek it out.

The visionary Park Chan-Wook weaves what may be his most entrancing mystery with this sexy, deceptive thriller. A woman agrees to con a wealthy lady by posing as her Handmaiden and persuading her to marry a fake Count. However, when the two women fall in love, all plans fly out the window. The two women share a compelling devotion, even when their open passion is prohibited by their era. But beyond the spellbinding queer relationship at it's core, this film has an addictive, constantly shifting plot that will make it's two and a half hour runtime go by before you know it.
