Exciting news! My #shortfilm ‘Say When’ has been selected for the Fortean Film Festival! thanks @forteanfilmfestival

Here’s an excerpt from the film which explores a destabilisation of time by blending history, observations of contemporary life and premonitions of the future, synthesising visual and audio ideas through the fractured lens of memory and media.

To construct this work I used #lidar #macro #electromagnetic #hydrophone #contactmicrophone alongside more conventional audio and visual recording processes to conduct an enquiry into potential #paranormal energy in the landscape around a small area of #thanet on the #kentcoast

Exhibition opens tmrw! This is one of four works that explore the idea of #temporaldislocation

4’33’’ x 10 is an audiovisual installation over 9 video screens with 9 channel audio. Each performer dictates their own interpretation of the composition 4’33’’ by John Cage. The performances, mediated via technology, merge with our own acoustic environment. Each screening is therefore a unique experience.

First posting of this work ‘Tools’ from 2018. A piece I made in the first year of my Fine Art Doctoral research into Temporal Dislocation and Audiovisual Practice. Intended for installation and live #electronicmusic performance ‘Tools’ is an arrangement of VHS tape clips and audio samples based on duration, intensity, pitch and timbre. An experimental montage structurally sequenced to produce a sense of visual and auditory flow setting aside typical composition or melodic precepts.

Establishing first principles I was attempting to apply #criticaltheory from aspects of #hauntology This audiovisual work explores notions of time and technological mediation by foregrounding the qualities of obsolescent and disregarded VHS and audio media. Assembled from visual and audible clips, pieces of information found in the gaps between recordings, degraded data caused by mechanical and digital processing.

I thought it’s a moment to share this given some interest around #vhstape promos circulating at the moment. This is NOT any part of the purported @boardsofcanada teaser doing the rounds - made five years after the last #boc album (2013) and eight years before their latest…?
