PADS Dogs
We raise, train, and place life-changing assistance dogs 🐶

September is National Service Dog Month. It’s also Deaf Awareness Month. So let’s take a look at hearing dogs and the life-changing work that they do 🐶
PADS hearing dogs support clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. They’re trained to alert their partner to a variety of sounds, from alarms ringing to their name being called. Their skills also go beyond these tasks and we’re often told that these dogs help their clients gain a greater sense of safety and confidence.

We’re going back to PADS basics and today we’re spotlighting PTSD service dogs and the life-changing work that they do 🐶
PADS PTSD service dogs support veterans and first responders who are are living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They’re trained to facilitate wellness in their partners and support social reintegration. Their skills include recognizing and deescalating early signs of distress, creating distance in crowded areas, and interrupting night terrors.
But our favourite skill is their ability to reignite hope in their partners 💙
Applications for our PTSD dogs are open. Learn more about these incredible canines through the link in our bio 🔗

We’re going back to PADS basics and today we’re spotlighting our incredible Accredited Facility Dogs!
PADS Accredited Facility Dogs, or AFDs, work with community care professionals to support healthy communities. Their work often involves supporting vulnerable people in places such as schools, victim services, child and youth advocacy programs, and hospices. They can also work to support people in high-stress occupations, such as paramedics and first-responders.
Unlike a service dog who will give life-changing support to one client throughout their career, AFDs support many people and often leave their pawprints on hearts far and wide 💙
What else would you like to know about AFDs? Let us know in the comments!

This one is kind of a big dill - it's thyme to introduce our newest litter 🐶
Proud parents PADS Athena and @padscasper welcomed the Herbs and Spices Litter earlier this month: brothers Sesame and Basil, and their sisters Primrose, Pumpkin, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Ginger, and Rosemary.
A big thank you to breeder-caretaker, Nicole, and her family for caring for mom and pups 💛 And thank you to the Sandpiper Foundation for your support and for choosing such precious names.
We can't wait to watch these puppies grow - we're sure they're mint for great things 🌿

We had a blast at Playland’s Practice and Play Day 🎉
Thank you to the @pne_playland for inviting us to meet your new staff and share some information about service dogs. It was incredible to see how interested, engaged, and respectful everyone was, and it was a great experience for our pups in training. We can’t wait to come back!
The PNE Playland opens this weekend, check it out for yourself!

“Some of the most meaningful moments happen when we simply sit together on the floor, connecting with our students in ways that feel safe, grounding, and genuine.”
This is the magic that PADS DK is bringing to his new role as Accredited Facility Dog at Centennial Secondary School. Alongside his handler, Karen, he connects with up to 1,600 students each day, bringing smiles to faces and connection to those who need it.
“Slobber and all, it is truly a privilege to work alongside DK and to witness the incredible impact he has,” Karen says.

When a dog reaches the end of their puppy-raising journey, their next adventure begins - service dog training 🐶
Service dog training is where pups develop the specialized skills they’ll need for their future jobs. Each dog follows the career path that suits them best, and our skilled trainers help them discover the roles they were born to excel in. These dogs will spend six to twelve months learning and refining their new skills.
Dogs in service dog training often go on fun field trips, which helps ensure that they are ready for whatever kind of life their future client leads.
By the time a dog graduates, they’re ready to take on the world and change lives!

New recruit alert! 🚨
We’re excited to announce that PADS Sokka has officially joined the New Westminster Police Victim Assistance Unit as their very first Accredited Facility Dog.
Raised and trained by Pacific Assistance Dog Society, Sokka has settled right into his role alongside his handler. His calm, gentle demeanour is already bringing comfort to community members as they navigate the criminal justice system.
“You can see a victim’s stress levels decrease when they have an AFD available to them when giving a statement to police or testifying in court,” says Kirsten. “We’ve had clients tell us that when they start to feel upset, they touch the dog and feel their breathing, which helps them regulate enough to be able to continue with their testimony.”
