With Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom, Hannan Jones, Shamica Ruddock, Tai Shani, Shenece Oretha, Cambridge Young Performers Orchestra, and Ain Bailey.

Join us to celebrate the unveiling of three new commissions and the completion of our capital project.

The afternoon will see two special performances programmed in response to Hannan Jones and Shamica Ruddock’s sculptural installation ‘Strike | the mark feeds the score | surface as notation’, with Shenece Oretha and the Cambridge Young Performers Orchestra activating its rhythms and material language through live performance. We’ll close the evening with a set by composer, artist and DJ Ain Bailey.

Wysing Studio Artists Joanna Holland, Isobel Meredith-Hardy, Rohini Kapil, Georgina Manning, Bettina Furnee, and Shawn Stipling will open their studio doors to share what they’ve been working on.

Opening: Thursday 02 April, 6-8pm

Glasgow Print Studio presents a two-person exhibition by Shenece Oretha and Camara Taylor, exploring experimental approaches to sculpture, sound and printmaking.

Developed through a Production Residency and supported by the Henry Moore Foundation, the exhibition brings together innovative material processes, from molasses-based steel etching and rice printing to instrument mallet forming, alongside research into Black histories, sound, land, and the material legacies of Caribbean and Scottish industry.

Through sculpture, print and embodied action, the artists reimagine how these forms can be made, experienced and activated.

Gather with @theslowgrind.world and friends @resolvecollective @earth.tenders @oooretha at @referencepoint180 for an evening of film (@groundingswithmysisters @hope_prl @purebred.mongrel ) sound performance and conversation to continue fundraising efforts in support of island communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis, more recently affected by the severe devastation of Hurricane Melissa. 🇯🇲🌊🌿

The Slow Grind as a Research and Publishing project has been focused on raising the alarm of climate injustice, ecological breakdown and the role of intersectional environmentalism and continues to, through research and open-education models. We want to continue to hold hope for a collective future that safeguards the botanical, communal and land cultures of Caribbean peoples, and direct our work towards this.

Tickets are available via @referencepoint180 and on a sliding scale.

All ticket sales will go towards selected bodies to help deliver direct relief and support of resilience initiatives in and for Jamaica, as well as to develop education and conservation modes to support land and cultural sovereignty.

"I don’t come from a world of art, but a world of sound. I felt like I actually had something to say about sound, about listening and voice, and sound’s ability to move or gather people."

Announcing our guest artist Shenece Oretha for the Film Without Images workshop on May 18th. Tickets are available on our website.

The session will involve reflecting on practical listening and emotional registers, as well as, building a small soundscape following this reflection.

This workshop is run by Sandra Jean Pierre, as part of her curatorial project @marasa.online, which explores sound possibilities in arts and research contexts.

Bio:
@oooretha is a multidisciplinary artist currently listening from London. Her practice is invested in the mobilising potential of sound enacted through sculpture, installations, print, collective action and moving image.
