I’m writing this from my friends’ couch and I need to get ready because I’m about to go out again but I’m just so happy in this moment and I wanted to immortalise it on the internet.

Last night was my dear friend @the.bettie.bombshell ‘s debut Festival and it was an absolute smash. Incredible talents from far and wide, beautiful venue, the band was brilliant! I loved performing with them! It was a big deal guys. Every now and then I’d look over and see Bettie in awe of all the performers. The audience members were screaming and howling and laughing and I was remembering her telling me about this in our dressing room at Sydney Opera House 6 months ago. It was surreal and beautiful. She and her team absolutely smashed it. A sold out night of joy, skill and euphoria. You should have been there!!!

I’ve been feeling really peaceful all day. I went for a walk to the park and I got a really delicious cherry danish which was sumptuous! I’m going to attend the last night of Melbourne Festival of Tease tonight so I need to put on something cute. I’m feeling really grateful and emotional. Also in a couple of weeks I’ll be a year sober from alcohol. The last couple of days being here has just made me realise what a beautiful place this is. I’m grateful for my life and my privileges and that even when life feels unstable and I don’t know what’s going to happen next, that I have these beautiful friends from all over who are inspiring me with their passion and beauty and love for their communities. It’s a really special thing, especially in these times where evil is pretty much inescapable. I woke up this morning feeling not so defeated and not so tainted and I wanted to share that feeling.
I hope everyone that reads this feels even a semblance of peace, comfortability and cosiness and if you don’t, I hope you do soon even if it’s just for a moment. I hope everyone out there can find a moment of relief.

There are exciting things from me on the horizon and I’m holding back right now but it won’t be long doves!

As always, take care of each other and please be safe out there. Love, O xx

So, now I’m not nose-diving into oblivion and life is different. I’ll be eleven months sober from alcohol and psychosis- free next week.

I have much I want to share with people just incase anything resonates. We are living in times where the violence of the world and the systems that uphold our ways of living are being made transparent. All violence has a root and I believe that most of the time you can trace it back to some kind of state-sanctioned violence. This doesn’t change our responsibility to ourselves and others to face the violence within ourselves and to forge new neural pathways. You can’t change or take back things you’ve said and done that have harmed somebody else or yourself. You can make new choices. I’ve started talking again about mental health on here because I believe that our individual wellbeing and sanity is intrinsically linked to our politics and our ability to empathise and care for each other. As a survivor and perpetuator of violence there’s no way to overcome these cycles until we face them honestly first as individuals then with our loved ones. This work echoes to our local representatives and our governing bodies. Our activism starts with us and our ability to function and engage in discussions around societal harm reduction with intention, clarity and understanding. This is something I have only come to realise in the last few years as I have made my way out of very damaging cycles that hurt others and I earnestly believed I would not survive. I want to put my voice out there as a complex person. If you’re struggling with the weight of what we’re experiencing in this life, if you’re frozen, if you’re scared, if you’re angry or volatile and abusing substances, if you’re ignoring how you’re truly feeling, please don’t go this alone. You’re not alone. There are better times ahead and hope is very much alive.

As always, @saneaustralia have brilliant, free resources and their helplines are all trained to assist with complex mental health disorders. Their forums are excellent also. Use them!

My life is rich because of my loved ones and family, I love you so much.

Take care of each other. Don’t give up. Don’t relapse.

Last night we closed Gatsby At The Green Light 2026. Four months, eight shows a week, 129 shows in the season. I’m ecstatic, exhausted and victorious. Four months being surrounded by some of the best performers in the world has been unreal and I’ve pushed my mind and body to new places because of these people. I’m grateful to say that these incredible humans are my good friends and I love them dearly. I’m going to miss you all so, so much. Thank you @sydneyoperahouse for having me and the crew. Thank you Caper & Crow as always for believing in me and seeing me reach new heights of showmanship. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes and all the crew who made this happen (Scarlett especially)! What an incredible, life-altering, magical time this has been. There was a big standing ovation for our last show. We did it guys!!!!!!! And we were outstanding!!!!!!!! I’ll be seeing you all and I love you xxx

I’m eight months sober from alcohol and I’m going to keep bragging about it. I believe wholeheartedly that if we as people are going to unite against greater forces of evil in this complicated and corrupt world, we need to also start at what has been festering and paining us inside. It’s rotten work. I’ve been hospitalised three times and I’ve been an alcoholic since my early teens. I was always looking for the next edgy thing to do to take me away from what I was feeling inside, to escape what was happening at the time. Not only did I hurt myself deeply and severely, but I hurt a lot of other people too. If you can relate to my story please know I’m also sharing this for you. Since I stopped drinking my life has opened and my self-belief has transcended what I thought possible for myself. I’m gaining skills left right and centre. I am building a fulfilling life for me and for my family too. Violence is at the root of all of our suffering. Whether it be inter-personal or state-sanctioned, violence is an inevitable experience of human life. It’s everywhere we look and we carry it inside of ourselves. I believe that it is our role, as the current generation, to face the harsh realities of this life and still choose to try. Not just in our activism but with each other.

Fall in love, hold your friends, love each other and have arguments and make up and eat well and experience as much as we can while we can. We deserve to live our lives. We deserve to live freely and with the confidence that we can love and care for ourselves and for each other. If you’re struggling with substance abuse, mental illness, trauma, or genuinely you’re just overwhelmed in any capacity, please don’t go it alone. Reach out to your friends or a professional.

I’ll always plug @saneaustralia because their resources are free and have helped me personally and been so incredible. Their forums and peer mentoring especially.

My doves! Stay brave, keep your chins up. We’ve got this.

I love you. Don’t relapse.

The year is nearly over and I got the evil voices to take a beat, 7 months (nearly 8) no booze, I catch ferries now listening to my unreleased songs, no psychosis, I sing at the Opera House every night and this time right now is the healthiest of my entire life. I’ve not known how to talk about this so I haven’t really. I’ve been hesitant to talk about self-improvement and mental health for a while because of my own shame, insecurities and fears that maybe the things I did and put others through has rendered me invalid to society but actually, even if that may be the case, I have a lot to say and I am going to say it before my time here is up. My understanding of complex mental health has exploded in the last year and I feel like my compassion for others, and myself, has too. There’s a lot of work to be done! Of course we must continue our resistance against violence and corruption in this world. I strongly believe that a good way to start if you feel overwhelmed, is by acknowledging the violence we carry in ourselves so that we can show up as best as we can for ourselves and others. Mental illness impacts us as individuals and the closest people around us and then even further outward. This is an issue that radiates throughout our communities and causes suffering. I still don’t believe Australia’s mental health crisis is spoken on enough. We must work together and take action as individuals. This work is even harder for those who live without the privileges the vast majority of Australians have in their daily life (racial/ upbringing/access to education/ wealth etc.) If you’re struggling, please fill your days with as much slow love and tenderness wherever you can. Lean on your friends, don’t isolate and reach out to professionals. I believe in you and everyone matters in this fight.

As always, @saneaustralia have brilliant resources if you’re struggling. Their forums and mentors have seen me through some of my worst episodes. Please utilise them! It’s free! The world is complex and so is every human in it. Hard times are inevitable. Show up, show love and compassion. Don’t give up. Better times ahead. I love you, take care xxxx

P.S something coming in March
