Objectspace
A public gallery in Aotearoa New Zealand dedicated to the fields of craft, design and architecture.
Our biggest fundraiser ever is live! 50/50 — For Makers and Objectspace.
We’re fundraising with @boosted.nz to support both our ambitious programming and the spaces that hold it. With all gifts doubled up to our $80k target (thanks to generous match-givers), there has never been a better time to support Objectspace. We need to raise it by 15 June (all or nothing) so now is the time to give – whatever you can! And we’ll split the bill:
* 50% raised will go to our makers: to commission works and shows from the artists we serve – the people pushing craft, design and architecture forward in Aotearoa.
* 50% raised will go to Objectspace’s operational budget: to help us run our spaces, cover the staffing needs of our growing exhibition and event programme, and plan for the future.
Throughout this big campaign to resource and revel in Aotearoa design, craft and architecture, we’ll be sharing insights from Objectspace alumni. Stay tuned, and support makers and Objectspace! Link in bio.

Meandering through the garden at Sir Miles Warren gallery are Wendelien Bakker’s Hose Works. Imagining a system of hose connections and waterways to streamline her garden routine, she developed these works to travel water down the garden in exploratory paths; a circuitous irrigation system in full view or maybe, ‘hydroslides for water.’
@w_nd_li_n says: “Initially, I imagined these forms only in clay, but the flexibility of hose with its capacity to bend and knot was hard to resist. I’m drawn to the impossibility of tying water itself into a knot.”
For more home and garden envy, visit Home Studio at 65 Cambridge Terrace until 28 June.

Good memories to give to. Another alumni spotlight as our fundraiser 50/50 — For Makers and Objectspace rolls on. Find out more and chip in through the link in our bio.
Our Director Kim remembers a convo with photographer @david_._straight nearly ten years ago at our old Ponsonby Road venue. David was undertaking a photo-series to document buildings by acclaimed New Zealand architect John Scott, which would eventuate in a book with @masseyuniversitypress and an exhibition at Objectspace – after we’d shifted around the corner to our refurbished Rose Road site.
In December 2021, we commissioned David to document the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the built environment in Tāmaki Makaurau. Towards a book that seems to get more interesting with age. Two very different projects, both pointing to the importance of architecture and design in our everyday lives, and both featuring very good photographs. Ngā mihi @david_._straight !!

Ben made thousands of tiles for an Objectspace commission – we were beyond impressed with his ambition and perseverance, and the fact he still enjoyed working with us feels like a compliment of the highest order. Thanks @benpyneceramics 🧱
Ceramics practice in Aotearoa is richly storied and highly sophisticated. There are so many practitioners, like Ben Pyne, who are making remarkable work and pushing the discipline forward. As the only gallery dedicated to craft in New Zealand, we’re lucky to work in this space and with these makers.
Our current @boosted.nz fundraiser will allow us to do MORE. Because your donations are doubled by our match-givers, there has never been a better time to support makers and Objectspace. Follow the link in our bio to contribute!

Update! Last Friday we announced our biggest fundraiser to date: 50/50 — For Makers and Objectspace. This Friday we’re here to say NGĀ MIHI for the enthusiastic support out of the gate. Thanks to your donations (big and small), we’ve reached 61% to target.
Now is the time to give, to keep the momentum rolling. It’s going to take a big push to get us to $80k over the next 23 days but we know you’ll get us there! Thank you!!

Spot prize announcement! @martinogamper gifted us a hook from Endgrained, and we want to gift it to one of you. Catch is you have to be IN THE ROOM and make a donation during our bingo fundraiser next Thursday evening, 28 May.
Get your $35 tickets now, link in bio (19 spaces left). Support makers, support Objectspace, and if you’re lucky, walk away with a new treasure for your whare. Hard to argue with that.
Another first for us, a performance – this one by @xin_with_ji and @alistair_deverick. Rehearsed in the exhibition, Martino Gamper’s Endgrained, and drawing on ideas from Xin’s solo work Body Story. Physicality, rhythm, improvisation. Here’s a glimpse.
Thanks for coming, and for embracing this exhibition as a living and working space. Visit the show until 31 May.

A chair dressed in poi by @isaacteawa@homeorchardcare for Objectspace Ōtautahi.
Both Greg Quinn's chair and Isaac Te Awa's poi build on rich design histories of their forms, informed by traditional methods, tools and materials. Each are crafted totally from locally grown materials in the maker’s studio – for Isaac, the ‘studio’ is the living room couch, and for Greg, the garage.
Visit Home Studio until 28 June.
