1. "under cover of darkness" opened my eyes to a whole world of indie music that completely rocked me when I was 11
2. influenced (whether directly or indirectly) each and every one of my favorite bands
3. penned multiple songs I consider some of the best songs of all time
4. before they got signed everyone said they sounded like shit but they proceeded to make music anyway and created their own genre of music in doing so
5. supported each other through addiction and alcoholism and, when they got sober, made even better music because of it
6. group of best friends just want to make music with each other forever
7. some of the best chemistry, personal and artistic, between band members that I've seen
8. so many beautiful songs that remind me of my friends, my romantic interests, my home, and some of the happiest times of my adolescence
9. told myself the strokes were one of the only bands I wanted to see before I die. then went to see them live and almost cried during "life is simple in the moonlight"

I used to celebrate my birthday alone every year until I turned 24 and went to the woods by myself for three days and realized how lonely I felt. then last year I went to philadelphia and new york and when all my childhood friends and i sat around tipsy at a dinner table at bonnie's I realized how much love surrounds me. I keep snapping back to the beauty of my life every time a friend makes time for me or gives me a thoughtful gift or sends me a funny video that makes them think of me.
