Like a scoby hibernating in the fridge, Social Pickle hasn’t been producing much in the last year or so and you might be wondering what we’re up to! But things are bubbling again and you can expect some exciting activity to be announced very sooooon. With that come some big changes, including saying farewell to some of our directors who are moving on to other things.

Social Pickle has officially been ‘alive’ in some capacity for over five years now. We’re so proud of the work it’s done, and the following that the project has amassed in this time, and incredibly grateful for the support of partners, participants, and organisations (and bacteria) that we’ve collaborated with.

So whilst our lovely core members (who’ve put so much into Social Pickle over the last few years) step over into their new locations and projects we’d like to thank them but also know that we hold a little of their bacteria (essence) within the project as it goes forward.

You can find the full announcement including individual goodbyes from Lucy, Hannah and Ross over on our substack, link in bio. Be sure to follow their onward journeys:

@fivewisehands [Hannah and Ross] continue their creative collaborative practice from their new location in Kent.

@night_toad [Lucy] is focusing on their own arts practice, making work from their Sheffield studio hedge

[image 1: directors closing meeting 🥲 the rest: look at all the lovely things they did!]

2 days until 🎀NAPPY RASH🎀!!! We’re bringing Beau Wanzer (US) over for a live set, this is his ONLY northern date for his UK/EU tour!! Couple of low income tickets left on RA, standard price is 13.50 (absolute bargain)😤😤

🍼 @beauwanzer (live set) - we’ll be getting a live set of the darkest and evilest sounds from the depths of Chicago😈 Beau makes dark, gritty electronic music inspired by early industrial, house/electro, and minimal synth. His music is eerie, grotesque, and little bit sleazy💦

🍼 @erosion.control - improv noise trio from HUDDS will be treating us to plenty horrible crushing noises in the form of cello/drums/trombone and a skin crawling amount of distortion 😍

🍼 Trve Yorkshire Kvlt Ensemble - this is not their first rodeo at ye old Gut Level, well loved for their silly little outfits and unsettling rituals; their bag🛍️is loud drone, and strange projections in a seance environment.

🍼 Extispicy: debut performance from a local duo, both of these swines are well acquainted with sweet slop and excessive mess, one half of the duo recently put on the well acclaimed ‘cake fuck’ event at gut level, so if you fancy more of that u kno what to do!

DOORS @ 7:30PM
TYKE: 8PM
EXTISPICY: 8:30PM
EROSION CONTROL: 9:15PM
BEAU WANZER: 9:45PM

TIX 13.50 adv available on RA via our website’s what’s on page xxx MORE OTD!!! 🎀🎀

Welcome our latest resident artist, Lucy Marriott! 🌟

Lucy is an artist and facilitator based in Sheffield, working across analogue photography, social arts practice and installation. Lucy has been using their time on residency to work in our fully equipped Darkroom.

During her residency, Lucy has been working on printing a series of portraits taken while living at ‘The Field’, a co-living artist-led space, housed in an old Stiener school in Derbyshire. The series is partly developed using plants from around The Field such as nettles, wild garlic and fermented tomatoes with some of them being hand painted. The images are inspired by old school portraits and question ideas around impermanence and preservation, with some of the images almost fading into the background, partly lost to the plant process.

Alongside this she has performed a series of experiments in the studio and darkroom, working with rosemary developers, illustrated misericords and abandoned spaces as well as starting a series of self portraits and puppet shirt figures, exploring ideas around gender, power and self image.

To see more of Lucy’s work, head to their page @night_toad

[Image Description: Image one - A selection of darkroom photographic test strips and contact sheets of black and white portraits. Image two - A varitety of sizes of black and white portraits pinned to a green wall. Image three - A black and white image of a faceless figure wearing a dress shirt sat on a chair surrounded by balloons. Image four - Lucy is holding a acetate sheet with drawings of misericord faces. Image five - Three black and white images of abandones spaces in Wakefield with misericord faces over them.]

Selling some prints!! 🖤

The images are all from when I was living @thefieldthefieldthefield and experimenting with different plant based developers.

The film was processed in a fermented tomatoe potion using leftover juices from @fermental_health creation and the prints were hand developed in nettle slime.

Link in bio to get your hands on one !
