DANCE DANCE FOR LIBERATION: Community Teach-In on Organizing and PACBI with Dancers for Palestine
Free event!
March 8th, 12:00pm - 2:30pm
Studio 34, 4522 Baltimore Avenue in West Philly
Members of the Dancers for Palestine Lead Organizing Team will share our organizing strategy, successes and challenges in organizing the dance field, and the role of arts and culture in the movement for Palestinian Liberation. We will talk about our attempts to move the dance field into more significant, material solidarity with Palestine through the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). We will address the dance field’s specific histories and dynamics when it comes to organizing, as well as what dance can teach us about organizing within any discipline or community. We’ll answer questions and brainstorm with attendees about their specific struggles and curiosities, including Philadelphia-specific organizing tactics and potential targets for PACBI campaigns.

I’ve been feeding this angel fluff on my porch. She’s an old soul and a baby boy. They have been snuggling me and staring longingly into my house. Most neighborhood cats take a snack and skedaddle, but this one hangs out for hours. He greets my guests on the front steps as if she’s the mayor.
Her ear is clipped so I assume he’s fixed and vaccinated, but I would be happy to contribute financially and logistically to get them to a vet and acclimated into your home. I am allergic, but otherwise would adopt this tiny cow in a heartbeat. They are a poet, philosopher, and clown. I am truly in love. She insists I watch him eat their kibble, looking back at me to make sure I’m paying attention, and will take food breaks to head butt me for ear scritches. The other day I saw him sitting in my garden smelling flowers and booping each of them with her little nose.
Please consider adopting this cupcake or spreading the word.

Wednesday Night Dance Improvisation Performance Practice with Rotating Teachers
Nicole Bindler leads Wednesday, May 6, 2026 6:30-8:30pm
at Headlong/Mascher Space, 1170 S. Broad St. Philadelphia, PA 19146
@mascher.space @nicole_bindler
Harnessing our voice and hearing in dance improvisation
Through a deep embryonic and functional connection between our voice and hearing, we will explore the relationship between how we express ourselves and how we listen. The pharyngeal arches are embryonic pouches that form at about four weeks of gestation in the head and neck. In fish they become gills. In humans they become structures in the ears, jaw, and throat that contribute to our auditory and vocal apparatus. Come prepared to move, vocalize, play, and experiment together.
Nicole Bindler is a dance-maker, Body-Mind Centering® practitioner, 500 hr yoga teacher, Polestar Pilates practitioner, myofascial bodyworker, writer, and activist. She has practiced contact improvisation since 1997, and she is a registered Master Somatic Movement Therapist through The International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association. Recent projects include curating an evening of Palestinian dance films; somatic research on the embryology of the genitalia from a non-binary perspective; a workshop on neuroqueering embodiment; co-producing the Consent Culture in Contact Improvisation Symposium at Earthdance; and a solo dance, The Case for Invagination, in which her scars speak candidly about trauma and desire. Notable performance projects have included touring as a choreographer with the Bethlehem-Based Palestinian company, Diyar Theatre; a Pew-funded performance residency in Japan including Butoh training with Yoshito Ohno; and performing Deborah Hay's I Think Not at Unidad De Vinculación Artística in Mexico City.

It may include solo explorations, group scores, forms such as Contact Improvisation, Authentic Movement, and even Site-specific work. The class will seek to develop as an ensemble, moving and sounding while balancing attention between self-material and the whole.

Please join me and Skye Hughes for an improvisation workshop at Studio 34 Yoga | Healing | Arts!
We're co-teaching three days of Body-Mind Centering and Action Theater April 14-16, 10am-1pm. Drop-ins welcome or take all three! We’ll have a workshop showing on the 16th at 8pm.
We're also offering a full-day workshop at WildHeart: Center for Performance and Embodiment Practice on Saturday, April 18th.
Links in bio for details about both workshops!
The workshops will begin with a Body-Mind Centering warm up that will heighten participants’ senses and prepare them for rigorous use of their body and voice in Action Theater. We’ll explore our kinesthetic senses, and our auditory, visual, and vocal systems. The second half of the workshop will invite participants to continue on the path from sensation to perception, and further out into the imagination—following this awareness to its wildest, most expressive states. Together, we will create a nurturing environment to move through any blockages that may inhibit vocal expression, fostering greater confidence, creativity, and freedom in both movement and speech. Through the intelligence of these complementary forms of improvisation, feeling, images, and ideas are embodied, lived, and amplified into movement, vocalization, and words—where even the subtlest sensation can blossom into a new, astonishing world.
