My dad, Marcus Morton Sherman, passed away today, April 25, after suffering an unexpected stroke the previous morning. It’s been a rough couple days but I feel lucky that I had a chance to say my goodbyes (even if it was over a video stream from the other side of the world), and that I have such a good network of support helping me through it.
I’ve been in touch with some people about it already, but there are so many others who would want to hear the news and this seemed like the most efficient way I could spread the word quickly to the people who have known him over the years. I’ll have much more to say in a more formal context soon, but I just wanted to get the news out quickly in the mean time.
As multiple people have reminded me, my dad was truly one of a kind. Throughout his life, he lived all over the world and saw it all with his own quirky, unique perspective. He marched to the beat of his own drum and taught me so much about life, whether he was trying to or not. He was perpetually interested in all kinds of different things and I’m sure that, to him, even death was a new and interesting moment to experience to the fullest.
This photo is from December 15, 2006, in Dad’s car just before we left on a road trip together from Massachusetts to Florida. We had some leftovers from New England Pizza House No. 1 (where I developed my love for pizza) and he’d be damned before leaving behind any perfectly good slices. In typical Dad fashion, he got in the car before remembering one last thing he needed in the house, and also in typical Dad fashion he didn’t care if his dashboard was technically a plate or not.
I love him tons and he had a great life.

Domino’s

★★★☆☆
After reminiscing with @ajhookbook about $3.99 All You Can Eat pizza nights at @papaginos in the late 1990s (a de facto hangout for the local punks and skate rats), I had a craving for mediocre American chain pizza. Domino’s delivered.

Not sure why I thought it was a good idea to get Neapolitan-esque pizza delivered. This pizza is much better straight out of the oven.
