My two close friends and I made a plan to go to Scarborough Bluffs to get some sunrise shots and practice filmmaking. But a few hours before sunrise, an idea came to me. While listening to the “Retro” music album I got this idea to incorporate the music with shots inspired by Mani Ratnam’s classic “Thalapathi“ which uses the sun as a focal point throughout the film. As this was all planned last minute and we are all still learning the art form, we did the best that we could. There are some issues especially with lighting due to the suns reflection and lighting consistency, but it was a great learning experience for us. With Kapilan’s great performance and Tensoflens’ impressive camera work, we are happy with what we managed to pull off with such little planning. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as we do. We recently went to downtown to shoot at this waterfront for the final portion of a short film we did and it was supposed to be a 2 hour shoot that ended up adding an extra hour because of onset logistical issues. So in scenarios like this, especially shooting in public you need to be able to solve problems on the fly. But then there are problems you just can’t solve. We made this film last minute for a 48-hour smartphone short film competition a few months back. We didn’t end up participating but we liked what we made, so might as well release it for everyone else to see. We have a passion for filmmaking and this is just the beginning of that journey.
