Happy Earth Day! Which happens to be my mother’s birthday, April 22nd. She designed the apartment my brother and I were fortunate to grow up in, filled with bright daylight, warm colors and fresh flowers. The apartment, recently published and posted by @elledecor was sold to its new owner over 20 years ago. It still resembles my mother’s classic and nature-filled interior design, minus the marble and paneling. She was a Parsons trained interior designer who worked at SOM. Remember to smell the flowers today 😊 💐 💛

Our design of the transparent double- sided electric fireplaces and interiors in this family home minimize harmful substances and contribute to a healthier indoor environment. #wellcertification
They convert input energy to heat. #energyefficiency
Compared to traditional fireplaces that burn wood or gas, they don't produce emissions. #reducedcarbonfootprint
They don't release pollutants like smoke or gases into the air #indoorairquality
the materials used in the fireplace's construction are low-emitting and sustainable. #naturalmaterials
We ensured proper installation to prevent heat loss and maintain optimal performance. #passivehouseintallation

so grateful to @thelocalproject for showcasing my work. They're a really interesting platform for investigating architecture and nature. It was so fun to work with them! Go to their website to order their collectible trio of hardcover books, Habitats: City, Coast and Forest. See here a selection of some of the images they posted of the Cocoon House. Thanks Sara Jacobs for your text: "As the mother of a cancer survivor, I’m very aware of the natural and non-toxic nature of my interiors,” says Anker. “All of the materials for the beds and the upholstered furniture are [found] within 500 miles, according to LEED protocol. The cistern – which is at the foot of the windows – also collects 50% per cent of rainwater, which is then recirculated into a non-chlorine filtering system.” The bathrooms are designed using white Vermont Danby marble, the flooring is made from locally-sourced oak and the patios, hearth and kitchen countertop are local bluestone.
Cocoon House serves as a key example of building with nature. Using curvaceous architecture and thoughtful interiors, Nea Studio spreads knowledge of environmental design while establishing an inviting family home.
