Today on #InternationalMissingChildrensDay , we honour the families and communities who are still searching for their loved ones who never returned from residential schools.
Through our work with communities on Calls to Action 72 and 73, the NCTR is committed to finding answers for families and commemorating the children who never came home.

NCTR’s Survivor Circle member Elder Barb Cameron and the Executive Director Stephanie Scott were honoured to accept the Canadian Labour Congress’ Outstanding Service To Humanity Award for the late Honourable Sinclair, Mazina Giizhik-iban on his family’s behalf.
His Honour served as our Special Advisor and Elder in Residence at the NCTR, and was always there for us. He brought the truth of the residential school experience. He fulfilled many roles: a leader, a mentor, a friend, and above all, a constant guiding star. We are forever grateful to him and the legacy he has left us all.

On #BearWitnessDay, we honour Jordan River Anderson and call for the full implementation of Jordan’s Principle.
Jordan lived in the hospital for two years while the provincial and federal government disagreed over who should pay for his at-home care. He died at the age of 5, while still in the hospital, before his family could ever take him home.
While Jordan’s Principle is a legal requirement intended to ensure all First Nations children are able to access the same health services and supports as other children without facing delays, many families still experience challenges trying to access care.
Visit the @spiritbearandfriends website this #bearwitnessday, to find out how you can help make sure all children get the help they need to live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Link in our bio.
At From Roots We Rise, your students will hear directly from Survivors, Elders, and Knowledge Holders.
Help open a dialogue about the history of residential schools with young people. Join us in Edmonton, Alberta on September 16th for this 2 hour live educational youth gathering.
