The North Carolina Heritage Commission, | NCAAHC updated our branding—take a look at our new logo! The design draws inspiration from cultural practices including weaving, pottery, quilt‑making, and travel traditions that shape African American history and expression. Together, these elements form a visual tapestry representing the many stories and contributions that guide the Commission’s work. The ring symbolizes the journeys taken in pursuit of freedom and joy, and the central beam represents the light that continues to guide our mission.

Beginning today, thanks to a loan from the @AmRevMuseum, the NC Museum of Art will be the temporary home for a 249-year-old sketch depicting a North Carolina revolutionary war brigade as they marched through Philadelphia. The drawing is one of only 12 known eye-witness accounts of George Washington's Army.

As part of North Carolina's celebration of America's 250th anniversary, this sketch, likely created by Pierre Eugene du Simitiere in 1777, will be on view at the NCMA through August 1. It will then head to the N.C. History Center at @TryonPalace through early October, before making its final loan stop at the Visitor Center at @HistoricHalifaxNC through November 6.

Visit us today to see this extremely rare historic work in person!

DNCR sites offer endless opportunities for lifelong learning. On this Travel Tuesday, we’d like to invite you to one of our “off the beaten path” historic sites. Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site (@brunswicktown_fortanderson) covers two centuries. With significant colonial, Revolutionary, and Civil War history, a visit to this place reflects the significance of North Carolina in the story of the nation.

Check out our top 5 things to do at Brunswick Town / Fort Anderson State Historic Site at the link in our bio.
