Mahjong, a centuries-old Chinese tile game, is making a comeback, and some experts believe it could benefit your brain health as you age.

The game has recently seen a surge in popularity, evident on social media and in leagues and lessons popping up around the Chicago area.

Dr. Erika Hutz, a geriatrician with Endeavor Health, says there could be health benefits to playing the game.

"As a geriatrician, if someone asked me what is the one activity that I would recommend for healthy aging, Mahjong would be very high on my list," she said.

Many of Hutz's patients have played Mahjong for decades, including 89-year-old Marcia Myers.She's now sharing her wisdom with a new generation of women, eager to learn the game.

"I find it fascinating," said Myers, who's been playing for 70 years. "It’s definitely a game of strategy because you have to know what you’re doing, and what your opponent is doing."

Mahjong is a game of skill and chance that requires focus, visual and mental coordination.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson released a statement Sunday hours after video showed a giant teen gathering over the weekend, with more than a dozen people arrested and five Chicago police officers injured amid the chaotic scene.

"Unauthorized large gatherings can quickly become dangerous, and early this morning, after curfew hours, we saw that firsthand," Johnson's statement, posted to social media, said. "I am grateful to the officers who responded diligently to help keep people safe and relieved that the officers who were injured are in fair condition."

The incident unfolded early Sunday morning on Chicago's West Side, with dozens of police officers responding to the area of Roosevelt and Loomis for reports of a large teen gathering that took place overnight.

As police attempted to break the scene up, the driver of a blue sedan going the wrong way struck five police officers, with all five transported to nearby hospitals in fair conditions.According to officials, the driver, an 18-year-old, was not injured and taken into custody. 12 others were also arrested in connection with the events, according to officials.

Multiple Chicago police officers were struck by a driver while breaking up a massive teen gathering on Chicago's West Side Sunday morning.

The gathering prompted dozens of police officers to respond to the area of Roosevelt and Loomis just before 4 a.m.

While officers were breaking up the gathering, the driver of a blue sedan was traveling westbound in an eastbound lane and struck multiple officers, according to Chicago police.

The vehicle then drove over the curb and came to a stop after striking a pole and a fence.

"All of a sudden the car just sped off and took off and just plow through... saw a couple of teenagers and four or five officers hit," said Justin Peters, who works with the violence intervention group Violence Interrupters.

The 18-year-old driver was not injured and was taken into custody. A weapon was recovered from the vehicle. Twelve others were also arrested in connection with the incident, according to law enforcement.

A total of five officers were taken to area hospitals, and all were listed in fair condition, police said.
